NEWS FLASH: 'Step Up 2: The Streets' Launches New Website and Competition

After months of me releasing details about the movie in bits and pieces as I found information all over the internet, 'Step Up 2: The Streets', the sequel to Channing Tatum and Jenna Dewan's infectious dance movie 'Step Up', has finally made an official announcement about the movie and has put up the new MySpace profile for the movie that will star Robert Hoffman.

Here is the new 'Step Up 2: The Streets' site on MySpace where you can also check out a video of the lead, Robert Hoffman dancing:

It seems that they will be looking for both dancers and singers to showcase their talents in the movie and on the film's soundtrack. If you are going to enter the competition, you should go to the MySpace Page to get the rules, submit your solo and dance team videos, get tips on how to increase your chances of winning the competion, and to download the music you need to use in your audition video. They will start looking for singers in October for the movie that will release in February 2008.

I also found a new article in the Hollywood Reporter that gives us more info on the movie's recent announcment, confirms a lot of the information that I had already posted on the blog over the past few months, and tells you how you can get involved in choosing the contest winner. Here's the article:

'Step Up 2' Ready to Dance

"Step Up 2 the Streets," the sequel to Touchstone Pictures/Summit Entertainment's "Step Up," has announced its cast along with a MySpace talent competition where the winner might appear in the film.

Briana Evigan, Robert Hoffman, Telisha Shaw and Adam G. Sevani will star, along with singer-model-actress Cassie, who will sing a song featured in the film and on the soundtrack.

Jon Chu will direct the sequel to the coming-of-age dance film. Set at the Maryland School of the Arts, the story follows revolves around dance student Patrick (Hoffman) and rebellious new student Andie (Evigan).

Building on "Dance in the Video, Be in the Movie" -- the user-generated contest for "Step Up" that appeared on MySpace before the first film's release -- Touchstone is holding a second competition. Aspiring singers and dancers are invited to upload audition tapes to the film's MySpace page. Entries will be viewed by the filmmakers, cast and choreographers of "Step Up 2," who will select a group of finalists. MySpace voters will determine the winners. Chosen dancers are expected to appear in the film either solo or with their dance crew, while the singer will record a track for the film's official soundtrack. Some entrants also might see their audition tape during the film's end credits.

"Step Up 2" reunites producers Patrick Wachsberger and Erik Feig of Summit Entertainment with Adam Shankman and Jennifer Gibgot of Offspring Entertainment, who also produced the original "Step Up." Meredith Milton, David Nicksay and Anne Fletcher will executive produce. Returning to choreograph is Jamal Sims, who will be joined by Hi-Hat and Dave Scott. Devorah Herbert is the film's production designer, and Max Malkin will be serve as director of photography. Principal photography begins Monday in Baltimore.

"Step Up," directed by Fletcher and starring Channing Tatum and Jenna Dewan, grossed more than $65 million domestically and more than $50 million internationally last year.

Touchstone and Summit Entertainment are co-financing "Step Up 2," and Summit will distribute the film internationally. Kristin Burr and Todd Murata are the development execs for Touchstone.

Hoffman's credits include "You Got Served" and "She's the Man." He is repped by Pakula/King and Associates, and Handprint Entertainment.

Shaw is repped by Insomnia Media Group.

As a matter of fact, CTU has so much 'Step Up 2: The Streets' information that I am happy to say other websites are starting to use my site as a source.
