NEWS FLASH: Chicago Casting Call for Channing Tatum's Movie 'Public Enemies'

The production team of Channing Tatum's upcoming true-life, crime drama 'Public Enemies' has been extremely busy completing the cast, solidifying filming locations, and acquiring everything in sight (including cars and antiques) from the 1930's era to help make the sets look authentic.

Directed by Michael Mann, the gangster film is an adaptation of Brian Burrough's book "Public Enemies: America's Greatest Crime Wave and the Birth of the FBI, 1933-43" and centers on the government's attempt to stop John Dillinger and his gang.

We already knew that they would be filming in Chicago and since the cast will soon start rehearsals for the film, Johnny Depp has already been sighted in the Windy City.

We also received confirmation this week that the movie will film in Indiana and various cities in Wisconsin during the March through June filming schedule. Here's some cities that have already been mentioned as possible filming locations:

  • Crown Point, IN (Lake County Jail)
  • Columbus, WI
  • Madison, WI
  • Richland Center, WI
  • Manitowish Waters, WI
  • Oshkosh, WI
Below you will find the current star-studded cast list and the roles they will be portraying:
The movie is not done with the casting process yet. The production is having a big open casting call tomorrow. If you would like an opportunity to be in Channing's film 'Public Enemies', then you can use the casting call information below courtesy of the Chicago Film Office to audition to be an extra in the movie.

Currently looking for men no taller than 6'1", women no taller than 5'8" and no larger than size 12. We also need thin children to reflect 1930s time period. Parking lot is on Western, south of addison on the west side of the street. Please bring a recent color photograph and a pen. You will fill out a registration card.

The casting agency is also looking for real news crews for the film. They sent out faxes to Chicago newsrooms asking for real male photographers, real newspapermen, and real news reporters (6' 1" and under and slim to medium build) to work as paid extras for the feature film.

In order to re-create the look, the feel, the accuracy of the time, they want to find men (20s to 60s) that might be able to work one or up to a few days in the Madison, Wisconsin area. The casting agency is asking potential newsman extras to e-mail them a photograph in a dark suit ASAP, and it's important that they can see your face.

Channing Tatum will start filming 'Public Enemies' in the next few months and the movie is scheduled for a 2009 release.

'Step Up 2: The Streets' is now officially considered a smash hit, since the film cost a little over $20 million to create and made almost $30 million in the first weekend of it's release. The movie continues to remain in the top 5 films as I type this post.

Because both 'Step Up' and 'Step Up 2: The Streets' have done so well, we happily learned yesterday that Disney has officially decided to create 'Step Up 3-D'. After Estonia and Poland, 'Step Up 2: The Streets' will premiere next in Germany on March 6, 2008.

If you have a favorite video that you would like me to consider, send a link to the video to votw@channingtatumunwrapped.com and tell me why you like it. I will post it and your explanation on the blog.

RUMOR OR REEL?: Jon M. Chu Will Direct Disney's 'Step Up 3-D'!!!!

I am extremely happy to say that this one is "REEL"!!! Because of the phenomenal success of Channing Tatum's 'Step Up' and 'Step Up 2: The Streets', Disney has already decided to greenlight a third film called 'Step Up 3-D'! You heard me right people...parts of the movie will actually be filmed in 3-D!!!!

Jon M. Chu, the insanely talented director of 'Step Up 2', contacted me to let me know he is currently in negotiations to direct 'Step Up 3-D'. After seeing what he did with 'Step Up 2', I am keeping my fingers crossed that the negotiations work out, and we get to see another Jon Chu movie on the big screen soon. He's an extremely cool guy and very passionate about his projects and that passion translates well on screen.

Even though he's not officially directing the movie yet, here's what Jon has to say about 'Step Up 3-D':

"The MOST AMAZING DANCE MOVIE EVER and the FIRST 3D DANCE MOVIE since Michael Jackson's Captain EO. If you thought Step up 2 The Streets was explosive...this will knock you straight out of your socks. Get ready. It's on. Well, almost. We just have to work out our deals, which could mean anything."

If you want to learn a little more about Jon, feel free to check out a couple of great articles in The New York Times and the Palo Alto Daily News.

Most importantly, I want everyone here at CTU to wish Jon good luck on getting this directing gig. I don't know at this point if Channing will be a part of the new movie, but I can safely say that we all can't wait to see 'Step Up 3-D' in theaters (directed by Jon. M. Chu)!!! ;-)

FAN ENCOUNTER: Channing Tatum Hanging Out with Fans at Pre-Oscar Party

Although I don’t think Channing Tatum attended the 80th Annual Academy Awards ceremony, thanks to Fabulous Channing Tatum Fan Hilarry we now know that he scored an invite to the star-studded Pre-Oscar party thrown at the Beverly Hills Hotel on Saturday night.

And being the fan friendly celebrity that Chan is, he was more than willing to take this photo with Hilarry and her friend Jaimi.

Below you will notice that I kept most of Hilarry's story and highlighted the Channing parts. Her celebrity encounters that night were pretty amazing, and I thought you all might enjoy reading it. Here’s how it all went down…

"...Later that night, we decided to go to the Beverly Hills Hotel where the "Night Before" the Oscars party was being held, to see if we could spot any celebs in the lobby. I don't know what we were expecting but it exceeded our wildest dreams!

We didn't even think we would be able to get in but we just waltzed right up the red carpet and into the hotel! It was so crazy. There were obviously no paps there and there were only a few other people in the lobby who were not celebs! We were kind of standing around in the lobby for a minute or two when we realized we were standing next to Cher! Random! Within 5 minutes, GEORGE CLOONEY walked right by us!! A minute or so after that, JENNIFER ANISTON and ORLANDO BLOOM walked by!!! When I say walked by, I mean within 5 feet of us! Seriously! We made Jaimi take notes of everyone we saw on her blackberry and the final list is 68 people long!!

Most of the celebs we saw were totally A-List....P.Diddy, Steven Spielberg, Cameron Diaz, Meg Ryan, Will Smith, Harrison Ford and Calista Flockhart, Josh Groban, and the list goes on and on! Really, it does! Click here to read the entire list.
So many of the celebrities were totally cool! Cameron Diaz said hi to us, Katherine McPhee gave us her swag bag, Channing Tatum who I love more than life, stopped to talk and introduce himself to us, Ricki Lake said "Hi honey!" to me, Dave Annable from Brothers and Sisters high-fived us, Josh Groban asked us how we were doing, and John Krasinski from the Office took a picture with me!! I totally interrupted John Krasinski talking to Laura Dern and Ben Lee! It was so tacky, I know, but he is the ultimate for me! I had to! I begged Scott to go with me and take my picture. He was SOOOOOO nice and really friendly! He was definitely the coolest celeb I have ever met.

I wish I had more pictures but it was a private party and we were attempting to be discreet. I was good up until Channing Tatum. There was no chance at being discreet at that point! Seriously, it's so crazy....John Krasinski and Channing Tatum are my favorites ever and I totally got to meet them both!

Jaimi and I with Channing Tatum....my face says it all. Hilarious, huh? I was freaking out!! A security guy came over to tell us we couldn't take pictures and Channing shoo'ed him away! I told Channing I saw Step Up 8 times in the theater! I think he was impressed...or scared ;)...
"

If you’ve been reading CTU for a while, then you know that this type of behavior is Chan’s M.O.. In a nutshell, that’s why Chan’s fans love him so much. You’ll be hard-pressed to find a star that is as cool with his fans as Chan (no matter where he is or what time of day it is) and that’s the #1 reason why I started and love doing Channing Tatum Unwrapped.

Although Channing was not at this year’s Oscars (as far as I know), I have no doubts we’ll be seeing him at future events. What you may or may not know is that Channing’s current and upcoming projects are chalk full of Oscar nominees and winners.

Here’s a run down of some of the talented directors, actors and producers that Channing is currently working with or will be working with in the future:

  • Scott Rudin – This uber producer’s film ‘No Country for Old Men’ just won Best Motion Picture of the Year at the 2008 Oscars. He has won another 4 awards (including an Emmy) and has 12 other nominations for various awards. Scott is also a producer on Channing Tatum’s highly anticipated film ‘Stop-Loss’, which releases March 28, 2008 and is already getting Oscar buzz for 2009.

  • Marion Cotillard - This actress just won an Oscar at Sunday’s ceremony for Best Actress for her portrayal of Edith Piaf in 'La Mome'. She has won 19 other awards and also has 9 nominations under her belt and will next be working with Channing in his 2009 crime drama ‘Public Enemies’.

  • Johnny Depp – This extremely popular actor has accumulated 3 Oscar nominations, 36 awards (includes a Golden Globe), and 34 additional nominations during his successful career. Channing will also be working with him on ‘Public Enemies’ when they start filming in Illinois and Wisconsin in March 2008.

  • Terrence Howard – This actor was nominated for an Oscar for his role in 2005’s 'Hustle & Flow'. He has had 18 other wins and 28 nominations and can be seen in Channing Tatum’s action drama ‘Fighting’ that is set to release this summer.

  • Michael Mann – This well-known director, producer, and writer has been nominated for 4 Oscars, won numerous Emmys, and has had another 15 wins and 19 nominations during his career. Mann chose Channing for his new role of Duke Hauser in 2009’s ‘G.I. Joe’, a movie that Chan is currently filming in California.

  • Oliver Stone – This well-respected director, producer, and writer has 3 Oscars, 36 other wins, and 34 nominations on his long pedigree and chose Channing to play hero Hugh Thompson in his war drama ‘Pinkville’. Although this film has been postponed, it's postponement has allowed Channing to do both ‘G.I. Joe’ and ‘Public Enemies’, so alls well that ends well.
Working with the above list of award-heavy directors, actors, and producers would be awesome for any actor, much less one that just burst on to the scene a short while ago. As a matter of a fact, most actors would give their left arm to work with almost anyone on that list and Channing has been given the rare opportunity to work with all of them.

Finally, I would like to give a BIG thanks to Fabulous Channing Tatum Fan Hilarry for the awesome story and CTU Reader Hannah for telling me about this fan encounter!!!

NEW Channing Tatum Photoshoot for March 2008 Vogue Magazine

In addition to being featured in three different Uk-based magazines this month, Channing Tatum has a ten-page spread in the March 2008 issue of US Vogue.

In the issue, you will find some amazing new photos of Channing taken by photographer Steven Klein with model Caroline Trentini. The article is called 'The Way She Moves' and Channing is pretending to help Caroline move into her upscale apartment. Can you imagine if Channing showed up at your door as your mover?

In addition to the gorgeous new photos, there's also a short article where Channing talks about the boot camp he went through to prepare for his next film 'Stop-Loss', how co-stars Ryan Phillippe and Joseph Gordon-Levitt (who also stars with Chan in 'G.I. Joe') are like brothers to him, and how he learned a little about old Hollywood style from Oscar-nominated 'Fighting' co-star Terrence Howard.

You can check out all of the high quality scans of the article below:

AROUND THE WORLD: High Quality Scans of Channing Tatum in the UK's Lad Mag, Sugar, and Shout Magazines

In a previous post on the blog, we learned from Fabulous Channing Tatum Fan Adam in Ireland that Chan is featured on the cover and inside the March 2008 issue of the popular UK-based magazine Lad Mag.

Thanks to Fabulous Channing Tatum Fan Naz from London, England, I now know that Channing is also featured in the March 2008 issues of the UK's Sugar Magazine and Shout Magazine. She even took the time to send us the high quality scans of Channing's articles and poster in all three of the mags.

In the Lad Mag article below the interviewer discovers what CTU readers have known for a while, that Chan is extremely down-to-earth, that he has not let his fame and hottie status go to his head, and that he can't deny how much he's in love with his longtime (and extremely lucky) girlfriend Jenna Dewan.

You will also find scans of the March 2008 issue of the UK's Sugar Magazine that features Channing in it's monthly crossword puzzle and the Shout issue that features a small article with Channing Tatum and Jenna Dewan from their 'Step Up' days and an ad for 'Step Up 2: The Streets' that can be found on the back of the magazine. Enjoy!!!

Fans can CLICK HERE to check out more photos from the Greg Gorman photoshoot where the Lad Mag poster of Channing came from in the Channing Tatum Unwrapped Photo Gallery.

You can also pick up both magazines on newsstands right now in the UK and thanks so much to Naz for sending me both the scans and the actual magazines!!!

NEWS FLASH: Channing Tatum's Girlfriend Jenna Dewan to Star in New Movie

I wanted to let all of my fellow Fabulous Jenna Dewan Fans know that Channing Tatum's real-life girlfriend will soon start production on a new movie for Lifetime Television. The Lifetime Original Movie is called 'Fab Five: The Texas Cheerleader Scandal' and also stars Academy Award winner Tatum O'Neal ("Paper Moon," "Rescue Me") and Ashley Benson ("Days of Our Lives").

The new movie is based on a true story that broke in late 2006 and follows the story of a gutsy young teacher (Jenna Dewan) who fights to end the reign of five misbehaving, beautiful, and well-connected cheerleaders who are sadly allowed to do whatever that want at a high school in the Dallas suburb of McKinney.

"The real-life story of these cheerleaders shocked many when the story broke, not only for their racy and inappropriate behavior, but also for the inaction of the school's administrators and parents," said Tanya Lopez, Senior Vice President, Original Movies, Lifetime Networks. Adding, "We hope this movie reminds parents how important it is to set limits on their children."

Here's a summary of what the story is all about:

In "Fab Five: The Texas Cheerleader Scandal," Brooke Tippit (Benson), captain of the cheerleading squad and daughter to Principal Lorene Tippit (O'Neal), and her group of friends known as the "Fab Five," constantly disobey school rules and disregard teachers while administrators turn the other way. But when Emma Carr (Dewan), a bright-eye, optimistic young teacher joins the faculty as the new cheerleading coach, the girls discover they are in for quite a challenge when Emma doesn't let them get away with breaking the rules as they are use to.

The outrageous antics of the clique quickly escalate from skipping and disrupting classes to extreme partying, posting suggestive photos of themselves on the internet, bullying and other self-destructive behavior. Hoping to protect the girls from endangering themselves and damaging their futures, Emma asks for Principal Tippit's support in disciplining the girls, but is blindsided with a request for a resignation instead. Frustrated, Emma risks the end to her teaching career by breaking the news of the scandalous conduct of the "Fab Five" and administrators to the local and national media.

'Fab Five: The Texas Cheerleader Scandal' will premiere in the Summer of 2008 on Lifetime Television. Congrats to Jenna on your new role!!!

Be on the look out for all of Jenna Dewan's movies this year , and I'll make sure to keep everyone posted on any future release dates for each film. Just so you know, here is a complete list of her movies for 2008:

NEWS FLASH: Create Your Own Trailer for Channing Tatum’s Movie ‘Stop-Loss’

Thanks to Fabulous Channing Tatum Fans Marlie and Kerline we have a couple of photos of two larger-than-life posters for Channing Tatum’s highly-anticipated Iraq war drama ‘Stop-Loss’. They took these photos from inside and outside of the movie theater last week when they went to see Channing in ‘Step Up 2: The Streets’ in New York City.

I also wanted to let you know that ‘Stop-Loss’ has added a cool, new feature to their website that I think all of CTU’s video makers are going to love.

You can now create your very own movie trailer for the film with video, audio, transition, titles, graphics, and music provided by the makers of ‘Stop-Loss’. After you make your trailer, other visitors on the site can rate it, and you can even share it by adding your video to your MySpace page, website, and/or blog.

Want to share your video making talents with the world? Make a video and send a link to the video you made to me at votw@channingtatumunwrapped.com. I may just post it on CTU!!!

You can CLICK HERE to start creating your very own ‘Stop-Loss’ Trailer!!!

I thought I would also give you a quick update on the ‘Stop-Loss’ media/college tour that director Kimberly Peirce is currently doing to promote the film prior to it’s March 28, 2008 release. She has already attended screenings in Seattle, San Diego, Miami, and Boston. Kimberly said the following about the audiences in the cities that have already had screenings:

"SEATTLE tended to be artsy and young; SAN DIEGO was heavily military with Iraq vets and military family as well as college students; MIAMI had ROTC, a lot of people between 17-20, and was about 50% Latin; BOSTON was mostly military family, vets from other wars (WWII, Vietnam) and college students."

Lucky fans from the University of Miami, Miami Dade College, Florida International University, Sunset Senior High, Varella Sr. High, Nova High, Fergusson High, Braddock Senior High, and South Dade Senior High at the South Miami, Florida screening on February 19th got an awesome opportunity to meet Channing’s castmate Victor Rasuk. He met a lot of excited fans and signed autographs for them after the screening. After that Kimberly jumped on a plane to attend the Boston screening the very next night at the Regal Fenway Theater.

Kimberly Peirce is truly enjoying hearing the reactions and stories of screening attendees, and the extremely busy director still has Atlanta, Toronto, Chicago, Minneapolis, Portland, San Francisco, San Jose, Houston, Dallas, Austin, LA, Philadelphia, and more on her travel plan.

Although I don’t have a complete list of screening dates, I do know that ‘Stop-Loss’ will be shown at the University of Chicago on February 27th. You can CLICK HERE for more details.

I am still hunting down location and time details for the list below, but Kimberly Peirce has said that there will be screenings in the following cities on the during the time periods specified:
  • 2/28/2008: Minneapolis
  • 3/3/2008 – 3/7/2008: Portland, San Francisco, San Jose, and LA
  • 3/11/2008 – 3/12/2008: Houston and Dallas
The movie will also be shown at the Fusion Film Festival in New York on February 28th and in Austin at the South by Southwest Festival (SXSW) on March 13th. Since I’m going to SXSW, I plan on also attending the screening of ‘Battle in Seattle' on March 10th, yet another one of Channing’s films that is scheduled for release this year.

Finally, don’t forget to check out the Sound Off section of the ‘Stop-Loss’ website where you can learn more about the movie, the real-life stories of our soldier’s and their families, and the escapades of Kimberly Peirce herself as she flies to every corner of the country to promote a movie that is near and dear to her heart.

Thanks to CTU reader Kerline, you can check out a new video that ‘Stop-Loss’ posted on MySpace where Channing talks about the Sound Off site:

Stop-Loss’ will be released in the US on March 28, 2008, but you can CLICK HERE to get all of the current release dates around the world and to watch the film’s two trailers.
