IN THE PRESS: Check Out Channing Tatum in Empire Magazine’s 2009 Hot List

Channing Tatum Featured in Empire Magazine's Hot List - May 2009 Issue (Cover)As I recently posted, Channing Tatum is featured in the May 2009 issue of Empire Magazine (aka "The Hot Issue").

In what's been dubbed "The Hot List", Empire Magazine is letting us know about the people we "can't afford to miss out on in 2009 and who are set to go stratospheric in the 2010's - the stars with the talent, the taste and more often then not the sheer gorgeousness to change cinema over the next few years".

Here's what Empire had to say about why Channing has the credentials to make both this and next year's list:

"...like [Marlon] Brando in 'On the Waterfront': he seems a little confused and a lot angry. He's vital if raw in 'Stop-Loss', muscular (and fearless) in 'Step Up', and brilliant in 'A Guide to Recognizing Your Saints'. He teams with 'Saints' director Dito Montiel again for underground scrap flick 'Fighting', but will receive wider notice for his Pretty Boy Floyd in 'Public Enemies' and the gun 'n' leather fetishism of 'G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra'. Lasse Hallstrom's war-vet romance 'Dear John' will prove he has brains as well as brawn. Expect tears, too."

You can also check out the scan of the article from the magazine below:

Channing Tatum Featured in Empire Magazine's Hot List - May 2009 Issue

The Hot List includes two of Chan's co-stars (Marion Cotillard from 2009's 'Pubic Enemies' and Amanda Seyfried from 2010's 'Dear John'). You'll find the complete list of the twenty "young, talented, and really happening right now" upstart stars who Empire says will go supernova:

  • Jim Sturgess

  • Mary Elizabeth Winstead

  • Melanie Laurent

  • Freida Pinto

  • Marion Cotillard

  • Michael Fassbender

  • Mia Wasikowska

  • Gemma Arterton

  • Evan Rachel Wood

  • Emily Blunt

  • Carey Mulligan

  • Zoe Saldana

  • Rebecca Hall

  • Channing Tatum

  • Sam Worthington

  • Ryan Reynolds

  • Daniel Mays

  • Amanda Seyfried

  • Noel Clarke

  • Megan Fox

REMINDER: Channing Tatum's 'A Guide to Recognizing Your Saints' Re-Releases on DVD

'A Guide to Recognizing Your Saints' Steelbook DVD EditionI want to remind fans that you can now purchase the new special limited edition A Guide to Recognizing Your Saints Steelbook Edition DVD on Amazon. The new DVD comes with a making of featurette, rehearsal scene, deleted scenes, alternate trailer, alternate opening, alternate endings and commentary with the director.

Writer and filmmaker Dito Montiel won the Directing Award at the 2006 Sundance Film Festival for 'A Guide to Recognizing Your Saints', which is a raw and impressionistic memoir about coming of age in ethnic, working-class Queens in the '80s. Shia LaBeouf and Robert Downey Jr. play Dito at two stages of his life: as a sensitive teen dreaming of escaping the dead-end violence around him, and as an adult who returns to see his father (Chazz Palminteri) after a 15-year absence.

The film also focuses on Dito’s family, childhood sweetheart, and friends, who all must manage a range of issues including drugs, domestic abuse and gang violence. Even though Dito accomplishes his goal of escaping his past and becoming a successful writer, he realizes the only way he can move forward in life is to go back and confront what he left behind. The ensemble cast -- which also includes Dianne Weist, Channing Tatum and Rosario Dawson -- won the Special Jury Prize for acting at Sundance and Channing received a Film Independent Spirit Award nomination for his powerful portrayal of the character Antonio.

Fans can check out tons of photos and graphics from 'A Guide to Recognizing Your Saints' in the Channing Tatum Unwrapped Photo Gallery, and you can watch both the trailer and a scene from the film called "100 Degrees" below:

To celebrate the release of the new A Guide to Recognizing Your Saints Steelbook Edition, we are giving away a free copy of the DVD to one lucky Channing Tatum Unwrapped Official Fan Club member.

Fabulous Channing Tatum Fan Spotlight

In an effort to help CTU readers learn more about each other, once a month I profile one special Channing Tatum fan on the blog and give them the "Fabulous Channing Tatum Fan Spotlight" award.

I am excited to announce that this month's Channing Tatum Unwrapped Fab Fan Spotlight is dedicated to Fabulous Channing Tatum Fan Adriane from Salvador in Brazil.

Since Adriane does not speak English, I have tried to translate her answers. Hopefully, I've been able to capture the gist of what she is so eloquently trying to say. Here is what you should know about Adriane:

Name:
Adriane F.

City:

Salvador

State:

Bahia

Country:

Brazil

Age:

28

Channing Tatum on the Set of 'Fighting' (September/October 2007)Favorite Channing Tatum Picture and Why?:

This photo is spontaneous, simple, natural, and shows the look that I most admire in Chan.

Favorite Channing Tatum Movie and Why?:

My favorite movie is Step Up. It was because of this movie that I first started to admire Chan. His performance was excellent, and I really liked Jenna and Chan as a romantic pair. It is a sweet film that contains drama, dance, and romance, and it always leaves me wanting more.

Favorite Channing Tatum Scene and Why?:

I really liked Channing in the scene in 'A Guide to Recognizing Your Saints' (Santos and Demônios) after Dito's (Shia Labeouf) father Monty (Chazz Palminteri) has had a heart attack. When Antonio (Channing) sees the person he most admired almost dying, it was a wonderful and strong acting moment for Chan, because he showed concern, anger, and despair all at the same time. His performance shows how much talent he has. I am very anxious to see all his current and future movies.

Favorite Channing Tatum Movie Quote and Why?:

My favorite movie quote is from 'Coach Carter' when Jason Lyle (Channing) sees his friend and teammate Cruz (Rick) struggling as he tries desperately to get back on the team by doing the exercises Coach Carter (Samuel Jackson) asked him to complete by a certain deadline. Lyle says, "You said we're a team. One person struggles, we all struggle. One person triumphs, we all triumph.".

Because everything in life is difficult, I believe and trust that a simple gesture and truthful words can change our lives. He showed not only to the players, but also to Cruz, that one needs the other. Everyone can win together and achieve their goals. He gave a great lesson in morality. In real life, sometimes we need a real friend to show us that sometimes we cannot do things alone. We have to trust, and trust is not given, this is won.

Favorite Upcoming Channing Tatum Movie and Why?:

My favorite upcoming movie is 'Battle In Seattle'. This is a movie that leaves me with great expectations, because it features a real-life story. Lately, Chan's movies are more and more significant. I'm sure it will give an accurate account of the events, plus the character is very different for Chan and will show his versatility. The story of the film is very good, and he is acting as a police officer which is something that, for me in particular, I was hoping for. I'm counting down the days until I can see the film in Brazil!!!!!!

Have you ever met Channing?:

Unfortunately not. If I met him, I would be a very happy fan, because I admire him so much. He is a beauty to the world, literally speaking in every way. I know that if I did meet him, I would be speechless. Unfortunately, I do not know how to speak English, but I know that the one word I can say is "thank you".

Why are you a Fabulous Channing Tatum Fan?:

Well, this is a response that requires much attention. I imagine that we all consider ourselves Chan's #1 fan in our own way. He's given us the opportunity to have wonderful moments. His charisma is unmatched. He is not only beautiful outside and inside, but he is also respectful and treats his fans with so much care. Even though I don't speak English and have to learn about him and his films through the help of a translator, I consider myself a big fan.

Why does Channing Tatum Unwrapped think that this fan belongs in the Fab Fan Spotlight?

Channing Tatum Fan's Christmas Gift for X-Mas 2007
Adriane
has been reading CTU for quite a while now, and incredibly, has not let the fact that she does not know English very well get in the way of her getting involved in the site.

I've always been impressed at how she goes all out for the various projects we have had at CTU. You can take a look at her elaborate and impressive Christmas present submission on the right as one example.

I was also very impressed by Adriane's thoughtful answers to the Fab Fan questions above, and hopefully I did not butcher them too much as I tried to compensate for the translator that can sometimes misinterpret American vernacular.

Most importantly, anyone who takes the time to translate the site and their submissions to CTU is definitely going above and beyond the call of duty as a fan as far as I'm concerned, and it's one of the many reasons why Adriane deserves this Fab Fan Spotlight.

Thanks Adriane for letting me profile you and for taking the time to share all of your info with the other readers!

As the subject of the Fab Fan Spotlight, Adriane is able to pick a custom-made poster of Channing Tatum courtesy of Channing Tatum Unwrapped! Adriane's Fab Fan Spotlight prize will be sent to her.

Finally, Adriane's Fab Fan Spotlight profile will be added on the right side of the blog so other Channing Fans can learn about her from any page on the site. Feel free to send your congrats to Adriane in the comments on this entry!

Do you want to be in the Fab Fan Spotlight? I will choose and interview readers who have contributed to the Channing Tatum Unwrapped and the Channing Tatum fan community by submitting Pictures of the Week, Videos of the Week, Comments, Graphics, etc. and/or by having groups, profiles, or sites that they made for Channing and his fans. I am currently choosing the next Fab Fan Spotlighter, so be on the lookout for an email from me requesting an interview and the next FFS might just be you!

Channing Tatum Pictures of the Week: Fabulous Fan Drawing Submission

Each week Channing Tatum Unwrapped will post one or more of our favorite pictures of the uber hot Channing Tatum.

Today's Pictures of the Week were submitted by Fabulous Channing Tatum Fan Brad from Atlanta, Georgia who is Channing Tatum Unwrapped's extremely hardworking resident artist. Brad always does an uncanny job of recreating the photos that he uses as the basis for his artwork and as an extra special treat, he threw in a beautiful drawing of Channing's girlfriend Jenna Dewan all by herself. The original photos below come from public appearances, 'Step Up', 'Stop-Loss', and 'A Guide to Recognizing Your Saints'.

Here are Brad's most recent works of art with the original high quality photos that he used to create them:

Once again, I sincerely thank Brad for sharing his amazing talents with all of Channing and Jenna's fans. You can CLICK HERE to see a slideshow with all of Brad's other gorgeous drawings.

Channing Tatum has tons of talented fans all over the world. You can find these drawings and so much more in the Fan Art Set in the Channing Tatum Unwrapped photo gallery.
