NEWS FLASH: Where is 'Step Up 2: The Streets' Currently Filming?

DID YOU KNOW?...If you have been reading this blog for a while, you know that 'Step Up 2: The Streets', the sequel to Channing Tatum and Jenna Dewan's extremely successful dance movie 'Step Up', started filming on July 30th and will continue filming in the Baltimore, Maryland area through the end of September with stars Robert Hoffman and Briana Evigan.

It's always my goal to bring you the news when it's hot! Well, today's news is just that. I just found out from a source that 'Step Up 2' is currently (as I type this message) filming on one of the upper floors in the Maryland Institute College of Art's main building in Baltimore.

The production is scheduled to film in various locations in the Hampden area and all around the Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA) campus. They also filmed at Baltimore City College yesterday.

Here's some information on both the Hampden area and MICA in case you are interested:

Hampden
Hampden, in the center of Baltimore, Md. is a mainly working class nieghborhood, it's got a funky charm to it. The main drag is 36th street, aka "the Avenue", which has consignment stores and small resturants along it. The Ma and Pa railroad once ran along the edge of the burg. And, the worlds first electrified streetcar line ran through the town in 1883. There are two groups of inhabitants of this area. The natives, which can be easily made out due to not having all of thier teeth, and speaking Balmorese. Then there are the younger imports, who are college graduates, musicians, and other slacker dope fiends that happen to live here, cuz it's cheap. In Hampden there is both a Republican party meeting hall , and the HQ for the Baltimore Nazi party.

Hampden is a neighborhood located in northern Baltimore, Maryland, United States. Roughly triangular in shape, it is bounded to the east by Wyman Park, to the north by 40th and 41st Street, and to the west by the Jones Falls Expressway. The Homewood campus of the Johns Hopkins University is a short distance to the east.

Maryland Institute College of Art
Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA) is an art university in Baltimore, Maryland. It was founded in 1826, making it the oldest accredited art college in the United States. It is one of the most selective art colleges in the country and is among the top visual arts undergraduate and graduate programs in the nation. MICA is often considered to be in the top five art schools in the world. MICA is a member of the Association of Independent Colleges of Art and Design (AICAD), a consortium of thirty-six leading art schools in the United States, as well as the National Association of Schools of Art and Design (NASAD). The school is located in the Bolton Hill neighborhood, along Mount Royal Ave. The main campus is about 1.5 miles (2 km) from downtown Baltimore, a city central to both New York and Washington, D.C., that offers an expanding array of cultural resources.

I had no expectations for Step Up going in, but it came out and blew my mind. So cool that it's being filmed nearby. I can't wait for Step Up 2, and would love to see some of the filming.
