BREAKING NEWS: Car Accident Injures Seven on Prague Set of Channing Tatum's 'G.I. Joe'

On the heels of the most recent James Bond film temporarily suspending production in Milan, Italy to investigate two serious car accidents, I just learned that there has been a car accident on the Prague set of Channing Tatum's big-budget movie 'G.I. Joe' today.

CTU reader Lainy who lives in the Czech Republic let me know about the accident and was nice enough to translate the numerous news reports and send us photos from the scene of the accident. Here's what we know so far...

The news reports are saying that around noon Prague time today seven people were injured when a car accident took place on Rohan's embankment near the hotel Hilton. In the scene, a Hummer was supposed to ride down the stairs from the Hilton to Rohan's embankment and hit a taxi that was passing by. Unfortunately, the Hummer hit the taxi and also accidentally crashed into a bus full of extras from the film.

Ambulances were dispatched to the set and took five of the injured to the hospital. The other two were transferred to the hospital by Meditrans, which is the company that is serving as medics for the filming crew. A spokesman from Prague's hospital Na Bulovce reported that the hospital has treated those involved for toe, head and cracked backbone injuries so far.

From the reports, it seems that the people involved in today's accident were stunt men and extras, and there have been no reports of Channing Tatum being involved at all. The Czech police are currently investigating the incident to find out what happened. Let's all keep the production in our thoughts.

The Czech media is also reporting that 'G.I. Joe' just started filming in Prague recently and will possibly be there for most of May. The production will then move to Prague's Barrandov Studios and film there for another month.

Channing Tatum's 'G.I. Joe' is set to release on August 9, 2009. You can CLICK HERE to get all of the release dates for the film.

I would like to give a huge thanks to Lainy for sending me the translated information and the photos. Stay tuned, and I will update this post with any other news that Lainy sends.

UPDATE (4/26/2008 5:54PM Central): It's now being reported that the car accident may have been caused by a break failure, and the production company is reporting that thankfully those involved were only injured slightly.
