NEWS FLASH: Channing Tatum's 'Public Enemies' Starts Shooting in Wisconsin

Channing Tatum will soon move from shooting his role as Duke Hauser in 'G.I. Joe' to his next role as Pretty Boy Floyd in the Michael Mann directed crime drama 'Public Enemies'.

Although Channing is not on set yet, the film started shooting around 6am this past Monday in Columbus, Wisconsin, which is north of Madison. Thanks to Michelle Martin, one of the hundreds of fans who have been braving the freezing temperatures near the set recently, we have some of the very first photos of Chan's co-star Johnny Depp on the set.

According to published reports, they are currently filming a bank heist in the small Wisconsin town, which boasts approximately 4,500 residents. Columbus is currently housing somewhere around 300 cast and crew and countless fans who are filling up the local Super 8 motel to camp out near the set and catch a glimpse of one or more of their favorite stars.

Crews have been working for over a month for what's reported to be a 4 day shoot to transform the city's downtown area into 1920's and 1930's era Greenville, Indiana where the true events occurred centuries ago. They have been removing street lights, taking lines off curbs, changing the facades of businesses, replacing awnings and signs on buildings, and even adding rubber cobblestone to the streets.

I can't even begin to explain the amount of news reports from all over Wisconsin that have been generated from this film being in the region, which is great for those of us who are no where near the set. There is a ton of information being released about locations and filming dates. Here's what we know so far...

The main production crew continues to shoot in Columbus today and tomorrow and it's been reported that they will return next Tuesday. A second unit is also shooting at the Lafayette County Historic Courthouse in Darlington, Wisconsin today.

To the left you can see a photo of Johnny Depp waving to over 200 onlookers as he enters the Darlington Municipal Building this morning to film interior courtroom scenes.

Based on numerous reports online, the production is supposed to head to the following locations soon:

  • Madison, Wisconsin - March 20th and 21st
  • Crown Point, Indiana (Lake County Jail) - March 23rd, 24th, 25th and 26th
  • Aurora, Illinois (Paramount Theater) - April 5th and 6th
  • Oshkosh, Wisconsin - 2nd Week of April
  • Milwaukee, Wisconsin (Milwaukee County Historical Center)
  • Richland Center, Wisconsin
  • Manitowish Waters, Wisconsin (Little Bohemia Resort)
  • Chicago, Illinois - March 24th - April 4th
If the details about set activities continue to keep pouring in from news outlets and people's personal blogs, I can almost guarantee that we'll have plenty of info, photos, and video of Channing whenever he does shoot his role. Let's just keep our fingers crossed.

Speaking of video, you can also check out a new video that a fan took this week showing the filming on the streets of Columbus:

Based on an adaptation of Brian Burrough's book, the 2009 film centers on the government's attempt to stop John Dillinger (Johnny Depp) and his gang.

In addition to Johnny Depp and Channing Tatum, 'Public Enemies' also stars Christian Bale, David Wenham, Stephen Graham, Marion Cotillard, Giovanni Ribisi, Stephen Dorff and Adam Mucci.

I really don't think so Erin, but I don't know for sure. I don't ask Chan about locations, because I don't want him to get in trouble for releasing the information. If I learn that he is on set from other sources, I will let everyone know.
