RUMOR OR REEL?: Channing Tatum...The Next G.I. Joe
I'm am extremely excited to let you know that this one's totally "reel", because today LatinReview.com is reporting that Channing Tatum is one of the three actors in the running for the highly-sought-after lead role of Duke in August 2009's G.I. Joe.
To give you a little background...actor Sam Worthington was initially cast as Duke in the film. The old scheduling conflict monster reared its head, because Worthington's current project (James Cameron's sci-fi epic Avatar) is taking longer to shoot than planned.
Exit stage left Sam Worthington and enter stage right his potential replacements...Channing Tatum, Chris Evans (Fantastic Four) , and Matthew Fox (Lost) are now the front runners for the role.
Pretty sure I don't need to say who I'm rooting for.
G.I. Joe is not only a "Real America Hero", as the cartoon always says, he's also an American icon. Being able to play Duke could be huge for any actor's career and would further solidify Chan's staying power and leading man status in Hollywood.
Let's wish Channing all of the luck in the world in landing this new opportunity and let's all hope we get to see G.I. Chan in 2009!!!! ;-)
UPDATE (01/18/2008): IGN is now saying that Mike Vogel, one of the stars of Paramount's highly anticipated new monster movie Cloverfield, may be a fourth candidate up for the role of "Duke," a.k.a. Master Sergeant Conrad Hauser, in the studio's live-action G.I. Joe movie.
