The Many Ethnicities of Channing Tatum

DID YOU KNOW...Channing Tatum is one of the most exotic and handsome actors in Hollywood today. According to a report on BET last fall, Channing Matthew Tatum's mother is half Native American and half Irish (which is a pretty commonly known fact), but they also confirmed that his father is French and 1/8 Black. It seems that Channing's great-great-grandfather is Black. This means that Channing is only 1/16 Black, which is why it is generally not mentioned in his biography.

Other than it being an interesting factoid, I don't think that any of it really matters, but I do think that all of those different ethnicities came together to form one amazingly beautiful man.

RANT OR RAVE?: Channing Tatum Playing Genghis Khan in 'Mongol' on MySpace.com

Please excuse me for this tiny little rant I have to get off of my chest...I really like MySpace, because I think it's a fun distraction. What I don't like are the people on MySpace that pretend to be someone they're not (aka The Posers).

I found one of the more popular Channing Tatum posers who tries so hard to convince people he is really Channing in order to advertise his photography business. One of his very recent blog postings says "he" has been given the role of Genghis Khan in the upcoming movie 'Mongol''.

Obviously he didn't do his research very well. Channing was originally awarded the part, but there was "controversy" around his non-Asian, Irish, Native American, and French ancestry. They ended up awarding the role to a popular Asian actor by the name of Tadanobu Asano. Here is a screen shot from the movie company's website showing who is (and is not) in the movie:

You can view it live at www.picturehouse.com. Sergei Bodrov (director, writer, and producer) started filming 'Mongol' on location in China and Kazakhstan in July 2005. The movie is currently in post-production and is set to release in June 2007 (without Channing). :-(

If I am wrong, then shame on me, but I'm pretty sure I'm not. I just hate blatant liars. To protect yourself on MySpace.com (and in most places on the internet), it is always best to assume people are not who they say they are until they give you some undeniable proof.

OK, I'll get off my soapbox now.

UPDATE #1: I spoke with Picturehouse and confirmed with the movie company that Channing Tatum is not in 'Mongol'. I also confirmed with both Channing's Talent Agency and Management company he does NOT have a MySpace page. I stand by my rant whole-heartedly.

RUMOR OR REEL?: Channing Tatum and Jenna Dewan Breakup

Let me start with saying I don't know if this is rumor or real at this point, but sadly I got wind of a possible breakup. My sources (a forum post from some person I don't know) told me that it was resently published in People Magazine that they are no longer dating. If it's true, it makes me a little sad, but I am sure for some people, hearing this is better than winning the lottery. I am going to try to get confirmation and I'll let you know what I find out as soon as I find out anything. UPDATE: Maybe this is more "reel" than rumor. You should take everything you find online (including this blog) with a grain of salt, but I found a site called Who's Dated Who that says Channing is dating a woman named Megan Dewall. Channing Tatum and Jenna Dewan: Step Up Press Conference in Italy

I found this interview with Channing Tatum and his real-life girlfriend and Step Up co-star, Jenna Dewan, at a December 18, 2006 press conference in Rome for the release of the movie in Italy. Jenna looks absolutely gorgeous in a royal greeen frock that accents her beautiful green eyes and you can really tell that she and Channing have a ton of chemistry as you watch the interview.

The video starts off a little slowly, because it seems that they have edited together some bits and pieces. But once you get about 1 minute into the approximately 5 minute interview clip the reporters start asking Channing Tatum and Jenna Dewan questions in Italian. The heavy Italian-accented interpreter then "helps" them through the interview. Because the sound quality is not great, here are a few highlights from Channing and Jenna's interview...

One of the reporters asks them what type of thing would they NOT do to advance their career. Jenna has to think for a second, but then says "Playboy". (Hopefully she won't ever have to eat those words.) Channing says that he would not do anything that his heart was not into. One of the big reasons why he really wanted to do Step Up was because he truly loves to dance. Channing continues to answer the question by saying, "I would never do anything that I didn't enjoy simply because it was a good career move." In usual jokster Channing fashion, he also adds that he would not do Playboy and Jenna chimes in and corrects him by saying "Playgirl" as everyone laughs. (As Florida Evans says on Goodtimes, "Damn! Damn! Damn!".)

Ok. Moving on....

The best part of the interview is when one of the Italian reporters asks Channing and Jenna to describe each other. Jenna explains that Chan is very sweet, loving, funny, giving, caring, and compassionate and is a really goal-oriented, hard worker. If the interview was a little longer, I am sure she would have made it to "sexy" or "hot as hell", but I think we all get the point.

You can tell that Chan is probably a little embarassed, but he lets the reporters know that Jenna is gorgeous both inside and out, is very real and has a "flower child-like" beautiful soul that is centered around love. And as the interpreter reiterates what he said in Italian to the reporters you can't help but notice Jenna loving looking at Channing with that "oh you are so getting some tonight" look! (Awww so sweet!!!)

OK you may have to forgive my paraphrasing a bit, but you get the jist. This is obviously two people who love and respect each other. They ABSOLUTELY make the cuttest couple in the world! And I'm pretty sure many of us would sell our first born to be in Jenna's shoes.

So here's my question...I'm wondering why we seem to keep seeing Jenna and Channing with rings on their left ring finger. Really makes me wonder if the marriage rumors may have a little truth to them. Hmmmmm. Food for thought...

CHANNING TATUM FOR DUMMIES: How can I (legally) buy Channing Tatum?

Have you ever looked at Channing Tatum and said "I'd like a piece of that!". Well, here's your chance...There’s this web site I found called the Hollywood Stock Exchange that actually let’s you buy pieces (aka shares) of Channing Tatum (and many other stars) as if you are buying stock in a company.

Personally, my eyes glaze over when people start talking about the real stock market, but I have to say that the prospect of being able to buy a little of the American Dream (aka Channing Tatum) peaked my interest. I have absolutely no association with this site, but I decided to share my findings with you all.

I always hear in the media about a star’s “stock” rising or falling based on their last successful movie or show or their last embarrassing club appearance getting out of a car without their undies. Well this site takes that concept to the next level. The Hollywood Stock Exchange is a lot like the real stock market (but don’t hold that against them).

You can buy shares of your favorite actors and their movies. You then watch the actor’s stock value (aka what they are worth) rise and fall based on their success. You see the star’s prices sore if their movie has a big opening at the box office or go through the floor if no one sees their movie. They even give people research tools to help you make the best buy. If you get nothing else out of this, the tools they provide are great sources of information for the celebrity watcher.

So what does all of this mean to the average fan? Well when you create a free account, they give you virtual money. Then you get to buy stock in popular actors and movies. You can buys stars like Johnny Dep, Angelina Jolie, Ben Affleck, etc. etc.. I of course bought as much of Channing (Stock Symbol: CTATU) as I could afford with my free virtual money, because in a crazy way, it made me feel a little closer to him. :-) Then as his stock rises or falls, my net worth rises or falls. (Have I lost you yet?)

Other then getting to say that you own a piece of uber hottie Channing Tatum, you are probably wondering why would any sane person do this. Well once you earn enough, you get to use your money to order “free” stuff from the site. Nothing is truly free, because you do pay shipping and handling. If you are really in need of another t-shirt, mug or hat, this may be an attractive incentive to you.

So if you want to be able to brag to your friends that you own Channing Tatum (and not be a liar), you may want to take a little trip to the Hollywood Stock Exchange. If you try to get a piece of him ANY other way, you may be taking a little trip to jail. Between you, me and my attorney, I think this site is probably a safer choice. (just joking...sort of) :-P

DID YOU KNOW... Although Channing Tatum has said in interviews he is not very good on the computer and I don't think even owns one at this point, he probably is happy that his fans don't have any problems with technology. Channing Tatum's Girlfriend: Jenna Dewan Unwrapped

A lot of Channing Tatum's fans are always curious about who Channing's girlfriend is in real-life. This is one of the cuttest pictures that I have seen of Channing Tatum and Jenna Dewan. As many may already know, 6'1", green-eyed Channing started dating his 5'3", green-eyed Step Up co-star not long after the movie wrapped in 2005 and they moved in together at the end of that year. Gotta love a hottie that's not afraid of committment.

Although there's a lot of info out there about Chan, I thought that I would give you a little more information on the enviable Jenna Dewan. Born December 3, 1980 in Hartford, Connecticut, Jenna Lee Dewan started dancing at a very young age. She parlayed her dancing talents into a successful career where she found herself performing with musical icons such as P. Diddy, Janet Jackson, and Ricky Martin (ironically Chan got his start in a Ricky Martin video).

Following career building small screen appearances in popular music videos for artists like Mandy Moore and Tony Braxton and short-lived sitcoms like Joey and Quintuplets, the beautiful brunette then easily transitioned into a lead role in the motion picture arena as the vengeful Tamara Riley in a 2006 horror film called Tamara.

Saddly, in Hollywood it is easier to become famous if you first become infamous. So Jenna Dewan got her first taste of "success" when tabloids began reporting on her supposed romance with fellow dancer Justin Timberlake. Jenna ignored all the contraversy and used her impressive footwork to dance her way into the 2006 musical drama Take the Lead as Sasha with Antonio Banderas. Jenna also played the character of Sally in The Grudge 2 (2006).

She then stepped up the fame ladder into Channing Tatum's life and heart as Nora in 2006's Step Up. Jenna truly loved her role in Step Up, because it allowed her to showcase both her dancing and acting talents. Not to mention, she also got to meet what could be the love of her life (aka Channing Tatum), of course that remains to be seen. People in Hollywood seem to have such a hard time maintaining healthy relationships. I will definitely keep my fingers crossed for them.

Jenna was fun to watch as Nora in Step Up and I hope to see her in many more roles. Try to catch her in her next role in the remake of Revenge of the Nerds set to release August 24,2007.

RUMOR OR REEL?: Channing Tatum and Amanda Bynes Dating?

OMG! Where is Jenna Dewan when you need her? OK don't get your britches in a twist when you see this March 2006 photo of Channing Tatum kissing and/or dating his She's the Man costar Amanda "Lucky Beyond Belief" Bynes in broad daylight when his was supposedly dating Jenna Dewan. This picture started serious rumors that he was cheating on Jenna, but you should be happy to know that all of the Amanda Bynes dating rumors were completely false. You can learn more about the inaccuracy of the rumor by reading this Cosmogirl blog entry by a good friend of Channing and Jenna's.

The pictures of their clandestine rondevue on the street came out around the same time that Channing and Jenna moved in together and may have caused poor Jenna some heartache. A picture speaks 1000 words, so I am sure that Jenna felt Channing had some Lucy Ricardo style splaining to do. Well don't worry, because in addition to being extremely hot, he seems to also be a good boyfriend. Once he found out that these rumors were going around, he had his people talk to various websites that were spreading the rumors, let them know he was not dating Amanda Bynes and that they are just friends. Just when I thought I couldn't love him anymore. :-)

P.S. If you really look at the picture, they don't even seem to be kissing on the lips. Funny how in route to kissing someone's cheek it can appear that you are in a liplock. After Amanda-gate, I am sure that he was more careful about being so friendly to Hollywood starlets not named Jenna.

UPDATE #1: I recently found a link to the other pictures that were taken with the one above. I could see how people could be a little confused about Amanda and Channing's past dating status.

Innocent starlet Amanda Bynes has fallen for her older She's the Man co-star, Channing Tatum. But heartache is lurking around the corner, as he's still dating another woman whom he's been seeing for the past six months.

On March 17, the day their comedy hit theaters (the movie rung up an impressive $11 million in ticket sales in it's first week), Channing, 25, and Amanda, 19 (who also stars on the WB's What I Like About You), were photographed on the streets of NYC openly kissing and hugging. "They were all over each other and shared a deep, passionate kiss," an eyewitness tells Star People. "They were very lovey-dovey."

Although Amanda's character falls for Channing in the movie script, real life may not hold the Hollywood ending she's hoping for. Contacted at his home in California, Channing's father, Glenn M. Tatum, tells Star People that Channing and Amanda are not an item!

"Channing has been in a committed relationship with another young lady, also an actor, for about six months," Glenn says. "She's been in Japan working for the past three weeks, but they've been in touch nearly every day she's been gone." Glenn — who says Channing and Amanda were in NYC to do promotional work for their film — adds: "Friendships were formed [during filming], and many of these people have stayed in touch, including Chan and Amanda." We'll see.

Obviously, his dad is talking about Channing being in a relationship with Jenna. This solidifies the fact that the picture thing is probably just a big misunderstanding.

A Guide to Recognizing Your Saints DVD Release

Although many were not able to see the movie because of it's limited release across the country, A Guide to Recognizing Your Saints is a critically acclaimed and award winning movie that has been praised for its hard-hitting screen play and talented cast. Channing Tatum & the B-More Bounce in Step Up

DID YOU KNOW...that Channing Tatum did not have any formal dance training prior to his role in 2006's Step Up, although it may be hard to tell from the movie clip above with Jenna Dewan? He has stated in many interviews that he used to not be able to dance at all, but taught himself by attending Quincenera's (coming of age parties in the Hispanic community) of 15 year old girls in Florida when he was growing up. His dance routines in the movie were extremely enjoyable to watch :-), so I would like to personally thank all of those young girls for training him so well.

As a person who has done the Harlem Shuffle at EVERY wedding (including my own) I've attended since 1975, I was happy to see the twist that the Step Up choreographers threw into the B-More Bounce. Too bad they didn't have Channing and Jenna teach it as an extra on the DVD, becuase it would have been really fun to learn it and spice up the next wedding.

Oscar Buzz for Channing Tatum

There are very few teenage girls and frequent movie goers who don't know who Channing Tatum is. You may have seen him as Amanda Bynes' hunky soccer playing teammate in 2006's She's the Man, as Jenna Dewan's juvenile deliquent dance partner Tyler Gage in 2006's Step Up , or as the disturbed teenager and Shia LaBeouf's friend Antonio in 2006's A Guide to Recognizing Your Saints .
