NEWS FLASH: Channing Tatum to Parody 'Dirty Dancing' for Mean Magazine's Star-Studded Cinemash
There's no question that 2009 is a busy year for Channing Tatum.
In addition to the three dramatic film projects that have or will hit the theaters this year ('Fighting', 'Public Enemies', 'G.I. Joe: Rise of Cobra'), the Hollywood Reporter just let us know about a fourth comedic project that Chan has in the works and will be released later this month.
Here's a hilarious still I found from the short showing a shirtless Chan in his Patrick Swayze-esque wig and what the HR article had to say about his new project...
"Will Arnett, Zooey Deschanel, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Milo Ventimiglia, Channing Tatum are some of the stars that have signed up for Mean Magazine's Cinemash, which re-creates scenes from prominent movies in short online films.
The series kicks off Tuesday with Zooey Deschanel and Joseph Gordon-Levitt, who star together in Fox Searchlight's "500 Days of Summer," interpreting "Sid and Nancy." The "Sid and Nancy" cinemash dovetails with "Summer" as the two have a scene in which they talk about the 1986 film. "Summer" director Marc Webb directed the short.
Among the highlights: Tatum stars in a "Dirty Dancing" parody, Ventimiglia does "Oldboy," and Arnett channels "Carrie."
The shorts will be available exclusively for download on Microsoft's Zune, and will stream on MSN, released weekly throughout the summer, beginning on Tuesday, July 7."
Zune, Microsoft Corp.'s end-to-end music and entertainment service, announced a partnership with MEAN (Music, Entertainment, Art, News) Magazine , a bimonthly magazine focusing on trailblazers in the fields of fashion, art and cinema, back in February to produce "Cinemash," a new original digital series that will take a comedic approach to reinventing classic scenes from popular movies.
Working with some of the most talented actors, directors and producers in the entertainment industry, Zune will develop additional pilots over the next 12 months ranging from live-action and animated comedy to urban and music programming. In addition to being offered as free downloads from the Zune Marketplace online store, the digital series may also be available on other Microsoft platforms such as MSN and Xbox LIVE in the future.
The "Cinemash" series of episodic video shorts developed and distributed by Zune will give popular film and television actors the opportunity to reenact the roles they have always dreamed of playing. I can't wait to see Chan flex his comedic chops ala 'She's the Man' in the 'Dirty Dancing' parody!
Chan's 'Dirty Dancing' "Cinemash" film short will be released on July 28th. It's directed by Nicholas Jasenovec and Kashy Khaledi, written by Charlyne Yi and Nicholas Jasenovec. In the comedy skit an appealingly off-beat couple wax romantic and can’t stop moving to the music as they mix intimacy and hilarity in a scene from the megahit movie.
