A source on IMDB is saying that Channing Tatum's movie 'Battle in Seattle' will indeed have it's world premiere at the prestigious Canadian Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) which will run from September 6 - 15, 2007.
The source also says that Kirk Shaw, one of the producers on the film, sent out an email on July 16th to the movie's cast to letting them know about the premiere.
TIFF will make official annoucements on July 23, 2007 for some parts of the festival and the remaing film annoucements will be made in August, so by then we will be able to confirm that the movie has truly made it into the festival.
'Battle in Seattle' is currently scheduled to have it's US debut in November or December 2007.

Leigh, who runs the Official Michele Rodriguez website, told me that the release is not 100% confirmed yet, because TIFF will make their official film list announcement on August 21st.
Because the movie has a large-cast and decent budget, was filmed in Canada, is covering an important subject, etc. is seems that the film has a really great chance of being chosen for the film festival.
Leigh also told me that if she gets any confirmation prior to August 21st, she'll let me know and ofcourse I will pass the info on to all of you.
Currently, the movie is supposed to release in US theaters in November or December 2007, and there is also a theatrical release scheduled in the Netherlands for March 13, 2008.

OK the title of this post may be a little lot cheesy, but just be grateful you can't hear me actually sing it. I have a lot of talents, but I'll be the first to admit that singing is not one of them.
Anyway, I really want to thank everyone for all of the great Happy Birthday's I have been getting for hours on the CBox, via email, and on MySpace, since many of CTU's readers are on the other side of the world. It really means a lot to me that you all would take the time to do that!
A couple of readers even sent me some really cool graphics and I wanted to share them with everyone. The first graphic is NOT REAL and was made by CTU Reader Miguel R.. The second graphic was made by CTU Reader Vienna from Germany.
These are so awesome!!! Thank you Miguel and Vienna for taking the time to make them! And I can't tell you how much I wish Miguel's pic was real! He was ingenious enough to combine a picture of Chan and Jenna and a picture of my husband and I. Don't really know how my husband and Jenna would feel about that. I'm thinking they'll just have to get over it, because in case you haven't heard, it's my birthday!!! :-P
The massive film festival boasts some 340,000 annual admissions and 'Battle in Seattle' was one of the lucky 349 films chosen for the prestigious Canadian festival.

Although Channing Tatum was not able to attend because of his current film commitments, his upcoming movie 'Battle in Seattle' had its world premiere in Canada at the 2007 Toronto International Film Festival September 8th.
The rumblings out of the film festival are saying the movie was so well-received that there was almost a 10 minute standing ovation as the film credits rolled. I also hear that this type of occurrence is a rarity at TIFF, so bravo to Stuart Townsend and the entire cast of 'Battle in Seattle'.
One poster on IMDB who attended the screening on Saturday had this to say about the film which debuted at the Ryerson Theatre,
"I was at the Ryerson screening. Charlize was crying, André was just straight balling, and Woody was being Woody. there was a standing ovation throughout the entire credits... this movie was insanely good and probably the biggest sleeper pick of the TIFF selections. An unbelievable directorial debut and an outstanding film. Did someone say Oscar?"
From that festival goer's mouth to God's ears. The movie seems to really have been a true labor of love for first time writer and director Stuart Townsend, so it would be incredible for everyone involved if 'Battle in Seattle' could be the sleeper hit of the Oscars, much like the ensemble cast of 'Crash' did a few years back.
Thanks to Leigh over at Michelle Rodriguez's official website, we have a festival cast picture of the the director Stuart Townsend (far right) and fellow cast mates in the back row Andre 3000, Michelle Rodriguez, Woody Harrelson, and in the front row Martin Henderson and Charlize Theron all were able to attend this premiere.
The film festivals are one of the ways that movies find distributors for their films. Hollywood Reporter says that the film drew strong and mixed reactions, along with seven-figure offers from three distributors a day after its Saturday premiere.
Variety says that after a handful of small deals for movies over the first four days of the festival, no more major pacts had closed by Monday evening. In spite of that, only 'Battle in Seattle' seemed to be close to closing in on a sale.
Offers from four companies were supposedly being weighed late Monday, with Endeavor expecting a verdict overnight or early Tuesday.
The videos below are from the Q & A session after the world-premiere of 'Battle in Seattle'. The first is with Andre 3000 and the second is with Charlize Theron and they're both discussing why they chose to be in the movie and how it's affected them.
Screen Daily posted the following review of the film today...
"Once the crisis has been reached, the film seems to move up a gear finding a dramatic intensity and urgency that has been absent. Scenes of police brutality involving tear gas and rubber bullets on the streets of America are a reminder of exactly how shocking the battle in Seattle was and the price people were willing to pay to uphold their right to protest. Innocent bystander Ella is knocked to the ground and punched in the stomach.
The sense of anger over the level of response to a peaceful assembly fuels the better second half of the film. Townsend strives to include an element of balance and perspective, especially in the story of Dr Alex Maric (Sherbedzija) a representative from Medicine Without Frontiers who is attending the WTO talks to raise awareness of the way expensive medicines are the greatest obstacle to improving the lives of many people in the developing world. His plaintive cries of "People matter more than profits" fall on deaf ears. He becomes increasingly marginalised as the conflict surrounding the talks becomes the story rather than anything that anyone hoped to achieve.
Townsend's affinity with Ken Loach is underlined by the use of Loach's frequent cinematographer Barry Ackroyd who adds to the immediacy of the drama with a good deal of intimate handheld camerawork. Townsend keeps a strong sense of pace, cutting between the preparations of the protesters and the police and scoring political points with the use of some telling news footage including President Clinton's stealthy arrival in Seattle in the wee small hours of the morning.
Battle In Seattle may have its awkward moments as it feels obliged to provide back story on certain characters. But those are balanced by a number of strong performances, especially from Woody Harrelson as the traumatised cop Dale and Rade Sherbedzija as the frustrated Dr Maric."
It was just announced that Brad's movie 'The Assassination of Jesse James' will also premiere at the festival along with Channing's movie 'Battle in Seattle'. Festival organizers also announced Thursday that Sean Penn's "Into the Wild," will premiere at the festival and Channing is slated to star with him in Oliver Stone's the upcoming Vietnam war drama 'Pinkville'.
Channing's Vancouver-shot drama which chronicled the turbulent 1999 anti-globalization protests against the World Trade Organization will be introduced to the festival goers in the Special Presentation category.

The sixth annual Transylvania International Film Festival (TIFF) is currently taking place in both Cluj Napoca, Romania, between the 1st and 10th of June, and in The European Cultural Capital - Sibiu, Romania, between the 4th and 10th of June.
Twelve films from twelve different countries are competing this year for the coveted Transylvania Trophy and Channing Tatum's movie 'A Guide to Recognizing Your Saints' is playing at the festival today. You can download the entire schedule below.

I have now gotten early (but official) confirmation that Channing Tatum's movie 'Battle in Seattle' will definitely have it's world premiere at the prestigious Canadian Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) which runs from September 6 - 15, 2007.
I would like to thank Leigh over at Michelle Rodriguez's official website for confirming this for me with a BIS insider after I heard a rumor the other day that one of the producers had informed the cast of the premiere at the festival.
Once the official, official announcement is made by the festival, we will know exact show times for the movie and hopefully some lucky Channing Tatum fans will be able to make it to the premiere in Toronto and get the opportunity to see or even meet him there.

The riots that confronted the World Trade Organization’s 1999 meeting in Seattle forced politically minded citizens into some tough intellectual deliberation. First there were the horrible images of smashed windows and police brutality on the news. Questions sprang up: When does a protest stop being peaceful? And what constitutes the appropriate application of law and order in such a situation? At the same time, the politics of globalization came under the microscope. Increasingly unfettered multinational business seems to be increasing wealth in developing nations – but at what cost to the social fabric? All of these issues and more lie at the heart of actor Stuart Townsend’s provocative and heartfelt debut as a director, Battle in Seattle.
The film follows multiple fictional storylines about people affected by the crisis, crossing the spectrum of debate and confrontation to examine what was going on inside and outside the Seattle convention space. The film grounds the sometimes heady politics of civil liberties and global economics by focusing on people’s individual experiences of the event. While its political sympathies clearly tip toward the protestors, Battle in Seattle maintains a certain open-endedness that allows for reasoned continuing debate.
Terrific performances from a wonderful ensemble cast help the director immeasurably. Townsend’s real-life partner, Charlize Theron, is heartbreaking as Ella, the wife of a police officer, who is forced to contend with unexpected violence, finding herself on the wrong side of authority. Ray Liotta as Seattle mayor Jim Tobin and Woody Harrelson as Ella’s husband, Dale, one of the city’s SWAT-like policemen, are key figures; we watch as their ordered view of the world slowly unravels. Michelle Rodriguez, Martin Henderson and André Benjamin play the most prominent protestors, their often naive enthusiasm dulled by mass arrests and mood swings as media reports blame them for the destruction and violence. The wonderful Rade Sherbedzija (also in Fugitive Pieces, our Opening Night Gala) provides an alternative – even ironic – perspective as Dr. Maric, who is fighting for lives in the developing world. Inside the convention centre, he defends his cause to uncaring bankers and trade representatives. Channing Tatum Covers August 2009 GQ
You all may or may not recall some photos I posted that showed Channing Tatum jogging through West Hollywood last May. That little jaunt through the streets of Los Angeles was one piece of Chan's grueling workout schedule and strict diet to get in shape for his very first major magazine cover.
In what I call the "Return of the Six Pack" photo shoot, famed photographer Mario Testino allowed Chan to show off many of his assets and all of his hard work with Santa Monica's Hotel Shangri-La as a backdrop and to the delight of fans far and wide.
