FAN ENCOUNTER: Channing Tatum and Extra Chris Head on the Set of 'Dear John'

Channing Tatum, Chris Head, and Other Extras on the Set of 'Dear John'

Today's awesome Fab Fan Encounter was submitted by fan Chris Head, an extra in Channing Tatum's highly-anticipated romantic drama 'Dear John'. Chris' story reminds us how exciting, rewarding, and tough the life of a film extra (and principle actor) can be.

As I previously posted, the movie filmed in Harleyville and at the Citadel in South Carolina the week of December 15th 2008. Here's what Chris (who you see with Chan in the first photo below) had to say about his eventful days on the Harleyville and Citadel sets of 'Dear John'...

Channing Tatum and Extra Chris Head on the Set of 'Dear John'"Well, I was fortunate enough to be able to be a part of this film. It was definitely an experience I will not forget. I received a call from Tona [casting] asking if I was available to shoot on a Tuesday. My heart dropped, and I immediately said yes!

Tuesday was shooting in Harleyville. It was an Afghan village scene. It was definitely something else. Smoke and debris filled the air. The rubbish and broken concrete made it look like a complete disaster area. Camels, livestock, goats, etc. also roamed the area. I dressed the part of an Afghan local, and drove a car that followed behind the US Army Hummers. Just when the 12hr day wrapped, and I figured this was it, I was asked if I could come back for the rest of the week to play an Afghan rebel. Mind you this is a 3hr drive for me everyday.

Channing Tatum with Extras on the Set of 'Dear John'After the week was over, Sunday night around 11:45 pm, I received a call from Tona asking if I could play US Army at 6am in the morning. I was shocked, and wondered how I would make it through the day. I had been up all day. It was 11:45pm and they needed me to be on set at 7am. Plus the 3hr drive to Charleston. I did it anyway.

This time it was portraying, I believe, Saudi Arabia. Excellent job doing so I might add. The scenery was unreal. You would never in a million years guess this was in Harleyville, SC. I met Channing for the first time, and got to talk with him for a few minutes. He was a SUPER NICE guy! I even had my picture taken with him!

Channing Tatum on the Set of 'Dear John'I drove home that evening and had to be back at the Citadel the next morning for the next shoot! I was completely EXHAUSTED! I drove the 3hr drive...went straight to sleep...woke up in the middle of the night to get ready...and started my drive to the Citadel. This time I was playing a doctor/orderly in Channing's room in Germany. This was the second time I would get to actually get a chance to talk with Channing.

They were preparing him for the next scene when they brought him back to the room I was in. I was actually by myself too. It was just me, Channing, and the assistant director. I listened to him sing out loud to himself as they pulled the bandages off his back. One swift pull on the bandage and you could hear the tape literally rip off his back! The look on Channing face was priceless!

Channing Tatum with Extra on the Set of 'Dear John'The day was wrapping up. It was 7pm or so and I had been in the infirmary for hours. It was hot, smokey, and full of crew members. I walked outside and to my surprise it was DARK!! I had no clue. The crew for the movie had put up lights outside of the infirmary windows to make it look like daytime.

They did an EXCELLENT job at doing so because many of the people walking out had the same look on there face as I did! This was the last day for me. It was 9pm on Tuesday night, and the movie was coming to an end. Tomorrow was the last day for filming, and no background was needed...Overall, it was great. Definitely a LOT of work, and it was very exhausting. I met great people, ate AWESOME food, and had the experience of a lifetime. :)"

'Dear John' tells the story of John (Channing Tatum), a young soldier home on leave and Savannah Curtis (Amanda Seyfried), the idealistic college student he meets during her spring vacation. The movie wrapped filming in the Charleston, South Carolina area last month and will be released in theaters this fall or in the Spring of 2010. Big thanks to Chris for sending in the great photos and his story! If you happen to run into Chan or Jenna, send your photos and fan encounter stories to fanencounters@channingtatumunwrapped.com. I will post them on the blog to share with envious fans all around the globe! ;-)

FAN ENCOUNTER: Channing Tatum on the Harleyville, South Carolina Set of 'Dear John'

Channing Tatum and Extra Stephen C. on the Harleyville, South Carolina Set of 'Dear John'

As I previously posted, the 'Dear John' crew was seen shooting at the Lafarge cement and sand plants with tons of military trucks in Harleyville, South Carolina on Monday, December 15, 2008.

Today's Fab Fan Encounter is a great, new photo from that set that was submitted by Stephen C. of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, who was an extra on Channing Tatum's highly-anticipated romantic drama 'Dear John' last month.

Here's what Stephen had to say about this lucky fan encounter with Chan on the set of 'Dear John'...

"Hey, I met Channing on set and he was the greatest to work with. Real down to earth and a consummate professional. The picture was taken December 15th 2008 on location of the 'Dear John' movie in Harleyville, SC outside Charleston, SC one of the last days of shooting."

"Dear John" by Nicholas SparksFilming wrapped a couple of days after the photo above was taken, and fans can click here to get all of the latest photos and news from the set of this movie.

Finally, There's a bit of a rumor going around about the release of the film. Originally, the movie was going to be released in September or October of this year. I'm now hearing that Screen Gems may push the premiere to early 2010 instead, because of the large amount of movies that both Channing Tatum and his co-star Amanda Seyfried are scheduled to release this year.

Prior to 'Dear John' hitting theaters, Chan will have a theatrical release for 'Fighting' on April 24th, 'Public Enemies' on July 1st, and 'G.I. Joe:Rise of Cobra' on August 7th. Amanda has the comedies 'Jennifer's Body' with Megan Fox and Adam Brody and 'Boogie Woogie' with Heather Graham and Gillian Anderson. Because both of their release schedules are so full for 2009, we may have to wait a little longer to see 'Dear John'. As always, I'll keep you all posted on the final release date of the film.

Big thanks to Stephen for sending in the great photo! If you happen to run into Channing Tatum or Jenna Dewan, send your photos and fan encounter stories to fanencounters@channingtatumunwrapped.com. I will post them on the blog to share with envious fans all around the globe! ;-)

Channing Tatum & 'Fighting' Featured on MySpace (1/11/2009)On a side note, Channing and his next film 'Fighting' are on the homepage of MySpace again today. From what I can tell, fans are really liking the Greg Gorman photoshoot picture that MySpace is using, because we have received around 1000 new friend requests in the past 24 hours.

Needless-to-say, it's been keeping me pretty busy, and I haven't seen a spike like this since 'Step Up 2' was released. I want to say thanks to all of our many new MySpace friends for helping us finally break the 40,000 friend mark! I also want to remind you that if you join the Channing Tatum Unwrapped Fan Club, you could be added to Channing's top friends next month. CLICK HERE to learn more about the FREE club!

ON LOCATION: First Look at Channing Tatum Filming ‘Dear John’ at the Charleston Air Force Base

Channing Tatum in Charleston Air Force Base Set Photos from 'Dear John'I'm told that the 'Dear John' crew was seen shooting at the Lafarge cement and sand plants in Harleyville, South Carolina on Monday morning and used "all types of military trucks" for the scene. Channing Tatum will wrap up filming this week for his 2009 Nicholas Sparks-inspired drama 'Dear John' and will be heading home soon to hopefully take a break for the holidays after working on this film for the past two months.

In a previous article, I posted photos of the production team filming at South Carolina's Charleston Air Force Base, but sadly, Channing was nowhere to be found in the pics.

Today, I have more photos from the Charleston Air Force Base set, but this time, we have the very first pictures of Channing Tatum actually filming 'Dear John'!!!

Fans can learn more about the filming and check out all of the photos in a recent article posted on the Charleston Air Force Base website.

The photos attached to the article show the 'Dear John' production crew filming a scene inside a C-17 using a telescopic camera crane and a scene where Chan and extras who are real soldiers pretend to be airborne in a helicopter in front of a blue screen in a hangar on the base on December 4th.

The production company received permission from the Defense Department to use base aircraft, facilities and Airmen to highlight the global airlift mission portrayed in the movie and all of the photos were taken by U.S. Air Force Senior Airman Timothy Taylor...[Read the full story]
