CASTING CALL: New York City Auditions for Channing Tatum’s ‘Son of No One’

Dito Montiel (i.e. the director of Channing Tatum's past and future films 'A Guide to Recognizing Your Saints', 'Fighting', 'Brotherhood of the Rose', and 'Son of No One') has sent out another casting call for the next movie that Chan will film.

'Son of No One' is currently in pre-production and will start filming in New York City very soon. This Sunday the production will be holding an open call for boys and girls of any race who can pass for ages 14 through 16. No experience is necessary, but please only attend the open call if you fit the age appearance requirement.

The open call will take place at Kaufman Astoria Studios on March 7th at 3412 36th Street in Queens between 12 and 4pm. You can CLICK HERE for directions. Minors MUST bring a parent or legal guardian with them to the casting call.

Last I heard, 'Son of No One' is supposed to film in New York City, Toronto, and Detroit and is about a young cop named Jonathan White (played Channing Tatum) who is assigned to a precinct in the working class neighborhood where he grew up, and an old secret threatens to destroy his life and his family. In addition to Chan and his 'Fighting' co-star and Oscar nominee Terrence Howard (who plays Vinny), the cast also includes James Gandolfini (Sergeant Mathers) and Al Pacino (Detective Stanford).

Here's the full synopsis for the film...

"Jonathan White had a rough childhood. His father, a cop, was killed in the line of duty, and Jonathan was raised by his grandmother in the Queensbridge Projects in Queens, NY. He had a lot of friends, and he was the only white kid, so they called him Milk. Milk and his closest friends were going to start a hardcore punk band and become stars like their favorite band, MDC (Millions of Dead Cops). But fate intervened. Milk and his friends were always hassled by a couple of neighborhood junkies, until one day Milk had enough and killed one of the junkies. Later, they were forced to kill the second junkie to avoid being caught. But the police knew more than they publicly let on. Detective Stanford (Al Pacino) approaches young Milk and tells him he doesn't have to worry about getting caught. His dad was Stanford's partner, which makes them like family.

Sixteen years later, Jonathan lives in Long Island with his wife Kerry White, and their beautiful daughter. Like his father, Jonathan is a cop, assigned to the Queensbridge projects where he grew up. 9/11 has caused the neighborhood to change, and real estate developers work closely with the police on a project called "Quality of Life", an effort to rid the neighborhood of junkies and homeless people. For Jonathan, the changes become personal when a rabble-rousing newspaper publishes a letter from an unnamed source, which describes the details of sixteen-year old murders that were never solved because the police didn't care. Jonathan's world is thrown into a tailspin as the letters continue and Sergeant Mathers (James Gandolfini) asks him to give the newspaper editor a visit.

The editor, an aging hippie named Roger Daltry, is determined to find out more about the unsolved murders. Jonathan researches his old friends to see if they're behind the letters. Many are dead, or have been relocated due to the Quality of Life project. He's pretty sure the culprit is Vinny (Terrence Howard), his closest friend. Vinny had a troubled upbringing, and he and Jonathan shared many secrets. Vinny spent some time in jail, and still lives at home with his mom. Jonathan's paranoia intensifies when he finds his work locker unlocked, with a copy of the newspaper inside. In the newspaper is a brand new letter about the murders. Kerry begins receiving threatening phone calls, and Mathers pressures him to silence Daltry. Jonathan confronts his old friend, but can't be sure if he has anything to do with the letters."

The crime thriller will be released some time in 2011. As always, I'll let fans know when I learn about any future casting calls. GOOD LUCK TO EVERYONE!!!

New Casting Call for Channing Tatum’s ‘Eagle of the Ninth’

Jenna Dewan recently visited Channing Tatum on the set of his Kevin MacDonald directed Roman epic, 'The Eagle of the Ninth' and tweeted that fans "will really love this movie". If you want to see first hand what Jenna's all excited about, you may just want to make a beeline to Scotland this weekend.

Sweet on Sigma Films is reporting via the UK's Press and Journal that 'The Eagle of the Ninth (which is currently filming on the outskirts of Budapest, Hungary) is holding a casting call for extras tomorrow, Saturday, September 12, 2009.

The event will be conducted by Des Hamilton Casting, and they're looking for local men between the ages of 16 and 45 and woman between the ages of 16 and 25 to appear in the feature film.

The casting call will be held at the MacPhail Centre in Ullapool, Scotland from 10am - 4pm and anyone interested should be prepared to provide a photo and contact details, which will be sent to the production team.

'The Eagle of the Ninth' is based on the best-selling, classic 1954 teen novel by Rosemary Sutcliff, and is set in the dangerous world of second-century Britain.

In 140 AD, twenty years after the unexplained disappearance of the entire Ninth Legion in the mountains of Scotland, young centurion Marcus Aquila (played by Channing) arrives from Rome to solve the mystery and restore the reputation of his father, the commander of the Ninth.

Accompanied only by his British slave Esca (Jamie Bell), Marcus sets out across Hadrian's Wall into the uncharted highlands of Caledonia - to confront its savage tribes, make peace with his father's memory, and retrieve the lost legion's golden emblem, the Eagle of the Ninth. Donald Sutherland portrays Marcus' uncle Aquila, who has retired in Britain; Mark Strong is cast as Guern, an ex-soldier who holds crucial information about the Ninth.

'The Eagle of the Ninth' is scheduled to hit theaters some time in 2010!!!

Good luck to any of you that plan on attending the casting!

CASTING NEWS: Channing Tatum to Star in 'The Darkness'

Channing Tatum has a ton of potential projects in the works, and the horror film site Bloody Disgusting just reported some casting news on a new one. I read this particular news item when they first posted it on July 28th, but wanted to confirm it before I reported it to you all.

I have now confirmed that Chan has indeed signed on to star in 'The Darkness', the latest film from The Pang Brothers Danny Pang Fat and Oxide Pang Chun who directed the Asian and English remakes of 'The Eye' and 'Bangkok Dangerous'. Like Chan's current movie, 'G.I. Joe: Rise of Cobra', the film will also be based on a comic book adaption.

"The Darkness" comic series was created by Marc Silvestri, Garth Ennis and David Wohl, under the Top Cow Productions banner. Ironically, Top Cow is the same comic book company that's associated with Jenna Dewan's 2010 film 'Magdelena'.

Bloody Disgusting says that Chan will play Jackie Estacado, a hitman who “was targeted for assassination by the don of the New York mafia, ‘Uncle’ Paulie. He finds his body possessed by ‘the Darkness,’ a malevolent spirit that has inhabited his family for several generations, with the benefit of giving Jackie supernatural powers that feed off the dark.”

Although the film is currently in the very early stages of development and does not have a release date yet, I still want to say congrats to Chan on landing yet another role!

'Step Up 3D' News, Casting Call, and Set Photos from Director Jon M. Chu

We've been getting a lot of visitors to CTU lately looking for info on ‘Step Up 3D‘. Although I think there's very little chance (pretty much 0%) that Channing Tatum will be in the third installment of the ‘Step Up‘ franchise that he started with Jenna Dewan in 2006, I still follow the progress of ‘Step Up 3D‘ as it films in New York City (and Paris later in the year) via the official Twitter of director Jon M. Chu.

You can check out a slideshow of director Jon M. Chu and producer Adam Shankman's behind-the-scenes photos from the set below...

The movie will be filming in New York through July and is holding an extras casting call today as I type this post. I just learned that Comer & Gallucio Casting has organized the casting call, and they are looking for all types and ethnicities ages 18 and over. Some specific types they are looking for include the following...
  • People who can portray hip hop types

  • People who know how to tango and/or have hip hop dance experience

  • People with tattoos, visible piercings, funky hairstyles, hipster types, skateboarders, old school roller skaters, 18-24 year olds, college students, and more!

As I previously mentioned, the casting call is today (Saturday, June 13th). SAG members were seen from 9:30am - 10:30am (Compensation: $130.00/8hrs) and non union extras will be seen from 11:00am - 4:30pm (Compensation: $80.00/10hrs) at the Church of St. Paul the Apostle on Columbus Avenue at 60th Street in New York City. You should come dressed to be photographed.

If you want to know more about the storyline of the film, you'll find it in my previous post, and get the latest behind-the-scenes scoop strait from director Jon M. Chu by subscribing to his official Twitter and Youtube channel.

Step Up 3D‘ is set to hit an IMAX theater near you on August 6, 2010.

RUMOR OR REEL?: Twilight Screenwriter Says Bring On Channing Tatum!!!

If you're a fan of the Twilight books and/or movies, then you may find today's news item even more interesting than most...

E! News is reporting that at least one very important person in the movie adaptations of Stephenie Meyer’s vampire love story thinks Channing Tatum would be perfect to play bad-boy vampire Riley in Eclipse, the third in the four-book series.

“There’s a very big battle at the end with Riley, and I think Channing would do that so well,” Twilight and New Moon screenwriter Melissa Rosenberg, who is currently writing the Eclipse script, told E! News this weekend at the Los Angeles Times Book Festival benefit for the Writers Guild Foundation.

“And there are some complexities to that character," she adds. "He really is tragic. He’s a puppet for Victoria [bad-girl vampire played by Rachelle Lefevre]. So he has to break your heart a little bit at the end when he realizes that she doesn’t want him. Channing could do that beautifully.”

Ironically, my friend Wendy, who's a HUGE Twilight fan, said the exact same thing to me last week. From what she's told me about the character, it seems to fit well with Chan's love of physical, yet dramatic, roles.

Only time will tell on this one, but knowing Chan's fan base as I do, I think the prospect of a role in the Twilight series would be pretty exciting to fans far and wide.

What do you all think about Channing Tatum joining the cast of Twilight?

CASTING NEWS: Channing Tatum May Star in Roman Military Drama 'The Eagle of the Ninth'

Channing Tatum at the 'Sugar' Premiere in Los Angeles (Wallpaper)

Channing Tatum has a ton of potential projects in the works, and Variety just reported some casting news on one of them.

Director Kevin Macdonald is set to turn the UK's classic 1954 novel, The Eagle of the Ninth, into a film, starring Jamie Bell and (possibly) Channing Tatum, if he decides to take the role.

Movie news site Ropeofsilicon.com says...

"The film is a Roman adventure set in the dangerous world of second-century Britain. In 135 A.D., fifteen years after the unexplained disappearance of the entire Ninth Legion in the mountains of Scotland, young centurion Marcus Aquila [possibly played by Channing Tatum] arrives from Rome to solve the mystery and restore the reputation of his father, the commander of the Ninth. Accompanied only by his British slave Esca (Bell), Marcus sets out across Hadrian’s Wall into the uncharted High Lands of Caledonia – to confront its savage tribes, make peace with his father’s memory, and retrieve the lost legion’s golden emblem, the Eagle of the Ninth."

You can read the Variety article in it's entirety below to learn more about a new role that Channing is reportedly considering...

'Eagle' enlisting Kevin Macdonald
Director takes on Roman military drama
By MICHAEL FLEMING

Helmer Kevin Macdonald will follow "State of Play" by directing the Roman military drama "The Eagle of the Ninth."

Focus Features has signed to distribute domestically and sell offshore distribution rights for the pic, set to begin production in August.

Jamie Bell is set to star in the 2nd century A.D. tale, and Channing Tatum is in talks to join him. Script is by Jeremy Brock, who teamed with Macdonald on "The Last King of Scotland."

Duncan Kenworthy is producing through his Toledo Prods. banner. Financing will come through the Focus deal and equity funding from Film 4, which will get U.K. broadcasting rights as part of its deal.

The story revolves around a wounded Roman soldier and his loyal Celtic slave who try to solve the mystery of the Ninth Legion, a brigade of Roman soldiers that vanished after heading into the untamed Highlands of Scotland 15 years earlier.

Hungarian locations will stand in for 2nd century England, while the Scottish scenes will be filmed in Scotland.

Bell is set to play the slave, while Tatum has been offered the lead but has not yet committed.

Macdonald's "State of Play" will be released on April 17 by Universal Pictures, with Russell Crowe, Ben Affleck and Helen Mirren starring.

Kenworthy, who last produced "Love Actually," also is producing an Emma Thompson-scripted remake of "My Fair Lady" that will star Keira Knightley, with Danny Boyle reportedly mulling the directing assignment.

As always, congrats to Chan on possibly adding this new role to his continually growing list of projects!!!

RUMOR OR REEL?: Is Channing Tatum in the Running to Play Thor?

It seems like every few months someone mentions Channing Tatum's name as a potential cast member of an upcoming action adventure (i.e. the Captain America casting rumor) and now the movie sites are buzzing with the news of another potential comic book hero role for the highly sought-after actor.

Movie site LatinoReview reported a rumor that actor Alexander Skarsgard (vampire Eric Northman in HBO’s “True Blood”) may be one of director Kenneth Branagh’s top choices to play the title role in his 2010 action adventure film 'Thor'. This rumor is solely based on the fact that Alex was recently seen having lunch with Branagh in Beverly Hills and the two share the same agency.

What does this have to do with Channing Tatum? Well, not be outdone by LatinoReview, movie site IESB.net added to the rumor mill by confirming that they too heard the same information from their sources AND let us know that Channing Tatum is also supposedly being considered for the part of Thor and that Josh Hartnett is campaigning for the role of the villain Loki, Thor’s adopted brother and principal foe.

All of this is purely speculation at this point, so if it's a comic book hero that you're looking for, Channing Tatum fans can get their fix when Chan's 'G.I. Joe: Rise of Cobra' hits theaters on August 7, 2009.

As always, stay tuned to Channing Tatum Unwrapped, because I'll make sure to keep you posted on any new casting developments.

The production team of Channing Tatum's upcoming true-life, crime drama 'Public Enemies' has been extremely busy completing the cast, solidifying filming locations, and acquiring everything in sight (including cars and antiques) from the 1930's era to help make the sets look authentic.

Directed by Michael Mann, the gangster film is an adaptation of Brian Burrough's book "Public Enemies: America's Greatest Crime Wave and the Birth of the FBI, 1933-43" and centers on the government's attempt to stop John Dillinger and his gang.

We already knew that they would be filming in Chicago and since the cast will soon start rehearsals for the film, Johnny Depp has already been sighted in the Windy City.

We also received confirmation this week that the movie will film in Indiana and various cities in Wisconsin during the March through June filming schedule. Here's some cities that have already been mentioned as possible filming locations:

  • Crown Point, IN (Lake County Jail)
  • Columbus, WI
  • Madison, WI
  • Richland Center, WI
  • Manitowish Waters, WI
  • Oshkosh, WI
Below you will find the current star-studded cast list and the roles they will be portraying:

NEW FLASH: New Casting Call for Jenna Dewan's Movie 'The Jerk Theory'

As I previously mentioned on the blog, Channing Tatum's real-life girlfriend, Jenna Dewan, is currently filming her next project in Utah. 'The Jerk Theory' is a romantic comedy she's starring in with 'Step Up' co-star Josh Henderson.

I found another casting call for the movie and thought I'd share it with you all....

The movie is looking for extras for this Saturday, December 1, 2007, for a library scene. The gig pays $50 per person for the day, and they are looking for people from ages 14 - 21. You are required to work for the entire 12 hour shoot.

If you live in the Salt Lake City area and are interested, contact the casting agent Robin at robin@trees-mom.com or call her at (435) 720-0509 ASAP. Make sure to include your name and phone number in the email or any message you may leave. You can click here to get more information about this casting call.

I don't know if Chan is still visiting Jenna in Utah, but if you do get chosen as an extra, you may just get lucky enough to see him too! Good luck!!!

NEWS FLASH: 'Step Up' Co-Stars Jenna Dewan and Josh Henderson Reunite on Screen for 'The Jerk Theory' and You Can Be in the Movie!!!

'Step Up' fans should be really excited to hear that former co-stars Jenna Dewan (Channing Tatum's real-life girlfriend) and Josh Henderson (Desperate Housewives) will reunite on-screen for their new movie 'The Jerk Theory'. It's being billed as a fun teen film (with lots of great music!) starring Josh Henderson, Jenna Dewan, and Tom Arnold.

The PolarStar Entertainment film was written by Abraham Taylor, and directed by Scott S. Anderson.

The comedy is about an aspiring recording artist named Adam (Josh Henderson), who is burned by a bad relationship experience and decides that if women won't respond to the "nice guy" then he'll be "the jerk." He is extremely successful with meaningless relationships, but when Adam meets and falls for Molly, who I'm pretty sure is played by Jenna Dewan and who doesn't fall for his jerk routine, Adam is forced to reconsider his dating philosophy.

'The Jerk Theory' is currently filming in Salt Lake City, and they need 100 people for extras on Friday November 16th and Saturday November 17th.

For this shoot, the production is looking for people of all sizes and ethnicities. Extras should be ages 13 - 25 or 30 (if you look young). All extras involved with the film will be fed and snacks will also be provided.

There is no pay for the extras used in this shoot, but if you are wanting to get involved in the movie industry, this may be a good opportunity for you, since you will get the chance to see how a major motion picture is made.

Please send an email to treesmom@gmail.com or call Robin at (435) 720-0509 if you are interested in being an extra in the film.

Stay tuned to Channing Tatum Unwrapped where, much like Chan, I always try to keep you posted on all of Jenna Dewan's new projects too.
