NEWS FLASH: 'Step Up 2' Snags Best Kiss at 2008 MTV Movie Awards

I recently asked all of you to vote for Briana Evigan and Robert Hoffman's kiss at the end of 'Step Up 2: The Streets', since it was nominated for Best Kiss at this year's MTV Movie Awards.

The 17th annual MTV Movie Awards was held at the Gibson Amphitheatre tonight (June 1, 2008) in Universal City, California.

I'm happy to let you all know that they won the award !!! You can check out more photos of Briana Evigan and Robert Hoffman as they accept their award and ham it up for the cameras both on stage and backstage at the show.

All I can say is, there is no question that they deserved that faux-gold-platted bucket of popcorn. :-) Enjoy!!!

You can now watch the really cute video of it below:

One other extremely cool thing happened at the awards show. You know you're big when MTV spoofs you during the opening number. The highly popular ACDC/M&M Cru dance battle was spoofed by host Mike Meyers and it was HILARIOUS!!!

The spoof starred Mike and real ACDC crew member Christ Brown. The dance battle was between Mike's M&M Crew and Chris' CBDC. In addition to spoofing the logos, they even had Mike wear Adam Sevani's purple striped shirt from the ACDC video.

You can CLICK HERE to watch the performance or you can check it out below:

NEWS FLASH: Channing Tatum's 'Step Up 2' Co-Stars Nominated for 2008 MTV Movie Award

This morning MTV announced the nominees for the “2008 MTV Movie Awards.” You can check out a video highlighting all of the nominees below:

Channing Tatum's co-stars Briana Evigan and Robert Hoffman from 'Step Up 2: The Streets' were nominated for Best Kiss along side Shia LaBeouf and Sarah Roemer ('Disturbia'), Amy Adams and Patrick Dempsey ('Enchanted'), Ellen Page and Michael Cera ('Juno'), and Daniel Radcliffe and Katie Leung ('Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix'). Fans can watch the kiss and vote for Briana and Robert by visiting MovieAwards.MTV.com before May 23, 2008.

Fans can also go online to vote for the user-generated category, Best Movie Spoof, where viewers have the opportunity to submit your own original movie shorts parodying films from the past year. MTV has partnered with video sites like Photobucket, MySpace, Daily Motion, Break, Buzznet, Heavy and FunnyorDie to give anyone and everyone with a creative vision their chance to shine at the celeb-filled awards show. Finalists for the Best Movie Spoof will be flown to Los Angeles to attend the awards, where one will be crowned the winner.

The 17th annual awards show will be hosted by Mike Myers and will be broadcast live on MTV from the Gibson Amphitheatre in Universal City, CA on Sunday, June 1st at 8pm/7pm Central. All the latest updates on nominees, presenters, performers, voting, contests and much more can be found on MovieAwards.MTV.com.

On a sort of related note...Anyone following the ACDC vs. M&M biggest online dance battle EVER knows that Briana Evigan and Robert Hoffman are the newest members of Jon M. Chu and Adam Sevani's ACDC crew. If you're a fan and want to help a good cause, you can now buy the shirts you saw the crew wearing in ACDC's lastest video (which was recently featured on YouTube's coveted front page).

If you couldn't afford to buy a role in Channing Tatum's 'Public Enemies' (the next charity auction bid is $90,000 by the way), no worries.

Jon Chu just made the limited edition shirts, which cost $14.99 each, available for purchase on EBay and all proceeds go to the charity Invisible Children. It's an awesome organization whose mission is to improve the quality of life for war-affected children by providing access to quality education, enhanced learning environments, and innovative economic opportunities for the community.

It's a limited run, so you should order quickly (only 42 left as I type this). Jon has even added the option to ship anywhere in the world for overseas fans.

Support ACDC and save the world one shirt at a time!!! I have already bought two shirts, and I will be giving one away on CTU when I get them, so stay tuned.

Channing Tatum Videos of the Week: Robert Hoffman's Real Life Dance Prank with 'Step Up 2' Castmates

Today's Video of the Week is a new video that 'Step Up 2: The Streets' star Robert Hoffman has posted on his YouTube channel to help promote the release of the movie.

If you've seen SU2, then you will understand how the dance prank in the video below relates to the film. Even if you haven't seen the movie, the video is still funny, because Robert and his crew of dancers surprise an unsuspecting convenience store clerk with a "dance performance". CLICK HERE to see the really funny video or you can watch it below. Enjoy!!!

'Step Up 2: The Streets' hit US, Canadian, and Czech Republic theaters on February 14, 2008 and I'm happy to say has had the same strong release that Channing Tatum's movie 'Step Up' did in 2006. Because both films have had such a strong release, industry insiders are saying that we should look for the studio to continue to develop the Step Up brand just like Universal did with its Bring It On series of films. 'Step Up 2: The Streets' will premiere next in the Netherlands on February 21, 2008.

The hot, new soundtrack has had an equally successful release. You can CLICK HERE to view the entire track list and to listen to a ton of the songs on the CTU MP3 player.

If you have a favorite video that you would like me to consider, send a link to the video to votw@channingtatumunwrapped.com and tell me why you like it. I will post it and your explanation on the blog.

CTU SURVIVAL GUIDE: What to Do Before, During, and After Seeing ‘Step Up 2: The Streets’…

The ‘Step Up 2: The Streets’ epidemic has officially hit. There is a reason why the trailer I posted on YouTube has been viewed over 1 million times in the past few months.

People are so mesmerized by the dancing in the film, they have this uncontrollable urge to watch it over and over again. After seeing the whole movie last night, I can guarantee that urge is not going away anytime soon.

The movie was so awesome, I found myself wishing I had a Tivo remote in my hand throughout the entire film so I could replay scenes at will. SU2’s DVD could not come out soon enough as far as I’m concerned.

I know I have a lot of readers who are going to see the movie this weekend or sadly have to wait for it to premiere in your country (we all feel your pain Naz), so I am not going to spoil any of the movie for all of you.

What I would like to do is give you a few tips on how to survive the SU2 craze by letting you know what you’re going to want to do before, during, and after you see the movie. So here goes…

BEFORE

Watch 'Step Up'
Whether you're watching it for the first or 1500th time (like many of us), I think we all should pay our respects to the movie that paved the way for ‘Step Up 2: The Streets’. Watch Channing Tatum and Jenna Dewan's 2006 highly successful film 'Step Up' where they managed to both dance their way into our hearts and movie history.

Buy Your Ticket Ahead of Time
A lot of the theaters playing ‘Step Up 2: The Streets’ are selling out, so you may want to buy your ticket ahead of time just to make sure you can go to the showing of your choice. I’ve talked with numerous people who had to go to a later showing because the movie sold out at their theater.

I also learned today that the early numbers are showing that ‘Step Up 2: The Streets’ may have beat all of the other movies in sales on Valentines Day with an estimated per theater average of $2500 and a $6.18 million cumulative, which I'm sure was great news for everyone involved with the film. You can read all about SU2's opening day success at FantasyMoguls.com. More importantly, thanks to all of you fans for helping to make that happen!!!

Show Up Early
Luckily, I was at the theater early, so I was able to get a good seat, but by the time the film started there was standing room only. I had a group of 16 sitting behind me believe it or not, so it was really important that they got there early so they could sit together. At one point, the matredee had to make everyone shift over because there were tons of people still trying to find seats and the movie had sold out. I’m am hearing the same story from many fans around the country.

Find a Good Seat
I’m not a prude or anything, but next time I’m going to try to find a seat next to a family or something, because the couple I sat next to had no issues with public displays of affection. It may be OK to partake in that type of pasttime any other time (and yes I know it was Valentine's Day), but when you’re in an extremely crowed movie theater and I’m literally 1 centimeter away from you, the arm rest just does not give me the comfort zone I prefer in those type of situations. Lesson learned and I digress….

Have Your Theater Turn Up the Volume
SU2 Director Jon M. Chu just emailed me and had one very important addition to my tips. He recommends that the following:

"...Before the movie starts movie goers should talk to the manager of the theater and MAKE SURE that they have the sound at 7.4 or even 7.5 to really be engulfed in the movie. It makes the experience 20x better I PROMISE!!!! I know it's annoying but seriously, there's a huge difference..."

- Jon

You heard the man! Demand that they turn up the volume so you can experience the movie the way Jon intended you to. If they ask why, tell them "because Jon M. Chu said so". ;-)

DURING
Watch Chan’s Cameo and the Finale Over and Over
I could re-watch Channing’s dance routine and the film’s finale over and over and never get tired of it. Before Chan filmed his part of the movie last September, he mentioned to me that he was a little nervous, because he had not danced in while. Well, if that’s how he dances nervous, then we should all be so lucky. I loved it from start to finish and I’m sure you all will too.

Then the movie's finale scene was some of the best dancing I have ever seen in or out of a film in my life. I have been told that it was choreographed by Dave Scott, and I was on the edge of my seat the entire time. All I have to say is, Briana Evigan, Robert Hoffman, and their crew of dancers are forces to be reckoned with.

Laugh, Cheer, and Dance
You will find it impossible not to laugh at characters like Moose and Jenny Kido. They are absolutely HILARIOUS and amazing dancers!!! Many cheered when Chan came on screen and when he finished his dance. Cheering was actually a common thread throughout the movie and the incredible soundtrack and dances make you want to get up and dance during the movie.

My theater was a little tamer than others, but I’ve heard numerous stories of movie goers dancing in the isles and practically having a party in the theater. You can blame that uncommon phenomena on the hot soundtrack and incredible choreography throughout the film. I take my hat off to choreographers Jamal Sims, Hi Hat, and Dave Scott for the routines and to director Jon Chu for capturing all of the action so well.

AFTER
Watch the Movie Again and Tell Everyone About It
After seeing the movie, fans can’t wait to get on YouTube and MySpace and let everyone know how much they loved it and how everyone should go see it. The one thing I have heard most often after people talk about how awesome the movie is that they can’t wait to go see it again. I know I'm really looking forward to watching it again tonight, and I know a lot of other fans will be too. Add all of us to all of you who are going to see the film tonight and you get even more reason to buy tickets before hand and show up early.
So without really giving anything away, I hope I've made it clear that I LOVED this movie, and you all should go see it again and again. And after reading this, I hope you can easily survive the SU2 craze that's hitting a theater near you.

I also found a new video below from ReelzChannel.com that explains the difference between 'Step Up' and 'Step Up 2' through interviews with Briana Evigan, Robert Hoffman, Cassie, and director Jon Chu. Enjoy!

Finally, I received some soundtracks and gorgeous autographed posters from the afore-mentioned Jon Chu! I would really like to thank him for sending those, and I will be posting a new contest soon to start giving them and the autographed pictures from Channing Tatum and Jenna Dewan to readers. So stay tuned to Channing Tatum Unwrapped!!!

Meet the Characters of 'Step Up 2: The Streets'

In case you haven't noticed, I've added a countdown clock on the left sidebar of the blog which currently shows that we have 4 days, 7 hours, 7 minutes, and 54...53...52...(you get the point) seconds to go before Channing Tatum's 'Step Up 2: The Streets' hits US theaters on February 14, 2008.

Some lucky fans are getting to see pre-screenings of the the film and are saying that 'Step Up 2' has managed to be even better than the first film. Fabulous Channing Tatum Fan Claudia saw the film a few days ago and said that everybody was dancing and clapping in the theater during the movie. She also felt that Chan's "performance was incredible". Here's what else Claudia had to say about the film...

"The end of the movie is indescribable though, it was just soooooooo good!!!!! 'Step Up 2' was indescribably incredible!!! Everyone must see it!!!"

CTU EXCLUSIVE: Get the Inside Scoop on 'Step Up 2: Streets' from Director Jon M. Chu

'Step Up 2: The Streets' has taken over MySpace's homepage and SU2 mania has officially begun.

Here's how I know for sure...

  • Channing Tatum's official (and only) MySpace profile received well over 1000 friend requests and over 80 messages and/or comments YESTERDAY after the new homepage was released.

  • Channing's MySpace profile started out with a little over 4,300 friends on January 1st this year and now boasts over 10,000 friends. The profile has gotten more than 3,000 new friends in the last week or so.

  • This site had been averaging 1500 - 2,500 vistors a day, but over 4,000 fans (most of them first-timers) made their way to CTU yesterday, the highest number of visitors this site has EVER had in one day.
I'm thinking people are pretty excited about the upcoming release of 'Step Up 2: The Streets', the highly-anticipated sequel to Channing Tatum and Jenna Dewan's 2006 hit 'Step Up'.

Since I started this blog a year ago, I've gotten a lot of surprise emails. The first one came from Channing's mom Kay, the second came from Channing himself, the third came from Chan's real-life girlfriend Jenna Dewan, and the email I received a couple of night's ago was just as (if not even more) surprising.

Although I'm sure he's swamped with preparations for the February 14th premiere, Jon M. Chu, the director of 'Step Up 2: The Streets', was nice enough to take the time to send me an email. He let me know that he too reads the blog and graciously thanked me for supporting the film all of these months.

The most exciting and unbelievable part is that he wants to work together to promote the movie by giving CTU readers a little more behind-the-scenes insight into 'Step Up 2: The Streets'. CTU readers may even get the opportunity to ask Jon some questions about the film, so I’ll keep you all posted on this exciting development!!!

Jon also wanted me to let you all know that he has started a video blog on his MySpace profile. You can check out the first three videos below where he gives us a behind-the-scenes look at 'Step Up 2: The Streets'. He told me that the upcoming video blogs will also show him interviewing some of the actors in the film, show movie outtakes, and show other never-before-seen footage from the production of the film.

Check out the first three videos below from the extremely funny and cool Jon M. Chu:

If you watched the videos above, you will see that Mr. Chu is one funny character, and I can't help but laugh with him during the videos. Jon also promises that there’s a lot more where that came from and that there may even be some cool give-aways involved in the near future.

If you have any questions about the film, send them to askjonmchu@channingtatumunwrapped.com, and you may just be able to get answers to the questions you've been dying to ask way before you even see the movie!!!

He also reminds us that 'Step Up 2: The Streets' will premiere in theaters on February 14, 2008 and the soundtrack will be released February 5, 2008. CLICK HERE to check out the trailer and world-wide release dates for the film.

Have I mentioned lately how excited I am about this movie?!?!? Stay tuned to Channing Tatum Unwrapped where you will always find exclusive, behind-the-scenes scoop on Channing Tatum, Robert Hoffman, and Briana Evigan’s soon to be smash hit 'Step Up 2: The Streets'!!!!

NEWS FLASH: Channing Tatum’s ‘Step Up 2’ Heads Back to the ArcLight for World Premiere

Step Up 2: The Streets’, the sequel to Channing Tatum and Jenna Dewan’s 2006 extremely successful dance hit ‘Step Up’, will have its world premiere next Monday, February 4, 2008 at the ArcLight Theatre in Hollywood, California. Coincidentally, ‘Step Up’ also had its world premiere at the same theater back in 2006.

For those who are lucky enough to be anywhere near Hollywood next Monday, celebrities are scheduled to arrive at 6PM and the screening of the movie will begin at 7PM. You can expect to see ‘Step Up 2’ stars like Briana Evigan, Robert Hoffman, Cassie Ventura, Adam G. Sevani, Telisha Shaw, Black Thomas, and Danielle Polanco on the red carpet.

With all of the new projects he has on his plate right now, I’m not sure if Channing will be able to attend the premiere yet, so I’ll let you all know as soon as I find out anything.

On the 'Step Up 2’ soundtrack front…

CTU's regular readers already know that the hot Atlantic Records soundtrack exclusively features the # 1 smash hit "Low" by Flo Rida and T-Pain, plus new singles and videos from Missy Elliott, T-Pain, Enrique Iglesias, Trey Songz featuring Piles, Plies featuring Akon, Cassie, Cherish featuring Yung Joc.

As I also mentioned on the blog last Friday, Missy Elliott has two new songs on the 'Step Up 2’ soundtrack , and she has worked with Disney and veteran video director Dave Meyers to create the very first 3-D video for "Ching-a-Ling" and "Shake Your Pom Pom". NEWS FLASH: Channing Tatum's 'Step Up 2: The Streets' Releases New Movie Stills and Polish Release Date

Channing Tatum's highly-anticipated film 'Step Up 2: The Streets', the sequel to his 2006 dance hit 'Step Up', just released even more new movie stills, and I have added over 20 of them to the Channing Tatum Unwrapped Photo Gallery.

In addition to the new stills, I recently found the following movie synopsis at ContactMusic.com that gives us a few more details on the film's storyline:

Nothing in life has come easily for 16-year-old street dancer Andie West (Briana Evigan) - nothing, that is, except dance. After her mother died, she was taken in by her mother's best friend, Sarah (Sonja Sohn), but for Andie, Sarah's house is just one more place she doesn't belong; her only real family is her dance crew, the 410, and her guardian angel from the neighborhood, Tyler Gage (Channing Tatum).

After Andie skips school for the hundredth time to rehearse with the 410, Sarah tells her she's had enough - she's sending Andie to live with her aunt in Texas. But luckily for Andie, Tyler steps in and saves the day: he convinces Sarah to let Andie stay in Baltimore if she agrees to attend the Maryland School of the Arts. Now all Andie has to do is get in.

Once Andie lands at MSA, she finds herself fighting to fit in while also trying to hold onto her old life. Her school commitments quickly start taking up all her time, and after she misses one too many 410 rehearsals, her crew throws her out. But Andie refuses to give up; instead, she joins forces with the MSA's hottest dancer Chase Collins (Robert Hoffman), and they recruit a crew of their classmates to compete in Baltimore's underground dance battle, The Streets. Sparks fly between Andie and Chase, and she ultimately finds a way to live her dream while building a bridge between her two separate worlds.

I also just learned that Missy Elliott is currently shooting a new music video with director Dave Meyers for “Ching-A-Ling,” one of the singles from the soon to released 'Step Up 2: The Streets' soundtrack.

Sources from Dave Meyers’ camp tell Rap-Up.com that this will be the first 3-D music video ever. Be on the look out for Missy's hot new video on MTV in the coming weeks!!! The soundtrack will be available on February 5, 2008 and you can CLICK HERE hear many of the songs.

Finally, good news for all of Channing's Polish fans!!! 'Step Up 2: The Streets' is going to have its theatrical release in Poland on February 29, 2008. You can get more information about the movie on the Polish website Wirtualna Polska.
