FilmInFocus.com Teaches Us How to Train Like Tatum

With a self-professed love for anything in the hamburger and beer food groups, Channing Tatum pretty much eats and drinks whatever he wants in between films, but when he's training for a film/photoshoot (i.e. 'Fighting', August 2009 issue of GQ), he's very focused and determined and grilled chicken and broccoli become his best friends.

Earlier this year, I posted an article with an interview from Chan's trainer for 'Fighting' that detailed out his diet and workout regimen before and during filming, and now, thanks to Channing Tatum Fan and CTU reader Jane, we have a new article from FilmInFocus.com letting us know how Chan trained for his new role in 2010's Roman drama 'The Eagle of the Ninth' where he plays young centurion Marcus Aquila.

TRAIN LIKE TATUM

One of the most anticipated titles of 2010, Kevin Macdonald’s adaptation of Rosemary Sutcliff’s Roman adventure novel The Eagle of the Ninth, is currently in production, and will be shooting on location over the next few months in Hungary and Scotland.

The film’s lead actor is Channing Tatum, who has starred in three movies already this year, Fighting, Public Enemies and G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra. Tatum, who cut his teeth in the very popular movies Step Up and Step Up 2: The Streets, is known for his fit physique and the physicality he brings to roles, so FilmInFocus asked him to share with us his training schedule for the movie.

Below, you can see how his work-out regime for the week prior to shooting, as he hit peak fitness to play the role of Marcus Aquila, the young centurion on a quest to discover what happened to his father’s legion, which seemingly disappeared in Northern Britain. And if you follow this exercise schedule – regular running, horse riding, chariot racing, sword fighting, and hand-to-hand combat – you too could be ready to face the grueling challenges of being a soldier in the Roman army. Or a physically superior movie star.

Tuesday:

• 08:00 -09.30 - Boot Camp - Fall-in formation and drill work

• 08:00 - 09.30 - Fight Club with Jamie Bell - fight choreography

• 10.30 - 12:00 - Horse riding with Jamie Bell

• 08:00-09.30 - Boot Camp - Formation Running and Forming Roman Testudo

• 10:00 - 11.30 - Chariot work

• 18:00-19:00 - Run from production office to hotel

Friday:

• 08:00-:09.30 - Fight Club - Sword fighting

• 10:00 - 11.30 - Stunt practice with team

• 18:00 - 19:00 - Run from production office to hotel

All I can say is, they had me at "Chariot work"! Knowing what Chan is training for gets me even more excited about this movie that will probably hit theaters sometime next summer or fall. Stay tuned to Channing Tatum Unwrapped to get the latest news on the film!

VIDEO OF THE WEEK: Artist on Artist with Channing Tatum and Sienna Miller

Today's Video of the Week is an Artist on Artist interview from Myspace I just found where Channing Tatum and his 'G.I. Joe: Rise of Cobra' co-star Sienna Miller interview each other during the press tour last month. It's a cute interview where Chan even throws in his notorious "Kung Fu" knee grip on an unsupecting Sienna at the end of the video. If you're ticklish or have any feeling at all in your knee, it's been known to disable grown women, such as myself, in a single pinch. Enjoy!!!

NEWS FLASH: ‘Magdalena’ Update and Jenna Dewan’s ‘American Virgin’ Releases on DVD in the UK

Channing Tatum's wife Jenna Dewan is currently busy studying her scripts and filming the nighttime drama "Melrose Place". US fans have to wait until episodes 7 and 8 later this season to check out Jenna in her new role, but UK fans get to see Jenna in one of her latest movies even sooner.

Jenna Dewan stars in the teen comedy 'American Virgin' with veteran comedian Rob Schneider and fans in the UK will be able to get the film on DVD and Blu-ray next month.

'American Virgin' is about a freshman college girl named Priscilla White (played by Jenna). After involuntarily over indulging and becoming drunk for the first time in her life, she discovers her sinful shenanigans have been caught on camera by a shoddy video producer (played by Rob Schneider). With her scholarship for college coming from an abstinence group who believe in no sex before marriage, it's a race against time and across country as she and her friends attempt to retrieve the potentially damaging footage before it's exposed.

Fans in the UK can buy/rent the movie on DVD and Blu-ray from the UK's Amazon.com and LoveFilm.com on October 5th.

Hollywood Spy also recently posted an article about one of Jenna's upcoming projects. Her 2010 live action film ‘Magdalena‘ is based on a popular Top Cow comic book. In the film, Patience (Jenna) discovers that she’s a part of the lineage of female warriors descended from Mary Magdalene who fight supernatural evil. The film also stars Luke Goss who plays Kristof, an agent sent by the secret organization that has been the guardian of the Magdalena lineage.

Today's Pictures of the Week were submitted by Fabulous Channing Tatum Fan and CTU reader Mehek K. and are some of the many photos taken of Chan when he was making the talk show rounds during the 'G.I. Joe: Rise of Cobra' press tour last month.

I just wanted to remind all of Channing Tatum's fans in Italy that his latest movie, 'G.I. Joe: Rise of Cobra', just premiered in your country YESTERDAY!!! You can get more info on 'G.I. New Casting Call for Channing Tatum’s ‘Eagle of the Ninth’

Jenna Dewan recently visited Channing Tatum on the set of his Kevin MacDonald directed Roman epic, 'The Eagle of the Ninth' and tweeted that fans "will really love this movie". If you want to see first hand what Jenna's all excited about, you may just want to make a beeline to Scotland this weekend.

Sweet on Sigma Films is reporting via the UK's Press and Journal that 'The Eagle of the Ninth (which is currently filming on the outskirts of Budapest, Hungary) is holding a casting call for extras tomorrow, Saturday, September 12, 2009.

The event will be conducted by Des Hamilton Casting, and they're looking for local men between the ages of 16 and 45 and woman between the ages of 16 and 25 to appear in the feature film.

The casting call will be held at the MacPhail Centre in Ullapool, Scotland from 10am - 4pm and anyone interested should be prepared to provide a photo and contact details, which will be sent to the production team.

'The Eagle of the Ninth' is based on the best-selling, classic 1954 teen novel by Rosemary Sutcliff, and is set in the dangerous world of second-century Britain.

In 140 AD, twenty years after the unexplained disappearance of the entire Ninth Legion in the mountains of Scotland, young centurion Marcus Aquila (played by Channing) arrives from Rome to solve the mystery and restore the reputation of his father, the commander of the Ninth.

Accompanied only by his British slave Esca (Jamie Bell), Marcus sets out across Hadrian's Wall into the uncharted highlands of Caledonia - to confront its savage tribes, make peace with his father's memory, and retrieve the lost legion's golden emblem, the Eagle of the Ninth. Donald Sutherland portrays Marcus' uncle Aquila, who has retired in Britain; Mark Strong is cast as Guern, an ex-soldier who holds crucial information about the Ninth.

'The Eagle of the Ninth' is scheduled to hit theaters some time in 2010!!!

REMINDER: Channing Tatum's 'Fighting' Premieres in Germany

I just wanted to remind all of Channing Tatum's fans in Germany that his latest film, 'Fighting', just premiered in your country on TODAY!!! Here's the German synopsis for the movie...

CHANNING TATUM & JENNA DEWAN VIDEOS OF THE WEEK: The Ricky Martin Edition

News has been a little slow lately and whenever that happens, I start digging into the vault for article ideas. In yesterday's hunt I found something, and I'm really not sure how I missed this in my past searches.

Most of you know that Channing Tatum got his start in the biz in Ricky Martin's music video "She Bangs" (you can see Chan getting his makeup done in the behind-the-scenes photo his mom sent me above), but did you know that Jenna Dewan was featured in Martin's video "Juramento"(aka "The Way to Love")?

Yet another thing the two have in common, in addition to the fact that the heat level in both videos is through the roof! It's almost not even fair to have that much hotness in one marriage. ;-)

Jenna told me that, even though the video was...

"Soo grueling to shoot..over 24 straight hours, desert heat, heels..I had to ice my feet for 2 days after! Ricky Martin is the best though. Very sweet, down to earth."

REMINDER: Jenna Dewan's "Melrose Place" Premieres on the CW TONIGHT!!!

I just wanted to remind everyone that "Melrose Place" will premiere on the CW tonight. In case you don't know, Channing Tatum's wife, Jenna Dewan, has joined the cast of the highly-anticipated reboot of the popular 90's nighttime soap opera.

Jenna started filming in late August and will appear in episodes seven and eight later this season. She will play a movie executive named Kendra Wilson who works on the Paramount lot and has her eyes on Jonah Miller (Michael Rady), an aspiring filmmaker.

Based on what Jenna tweeted after a resent wardrobe fitting, her character will be wearing tons of sexy suits and has been described as an "ivy league graduate, wickedly sexy and wickedly smart".

"Melrose Place" will premiere on TONIGHT, September 8 @ 9PM ET/PT on The CW (after "90210").

FAN ENCOUNTER: Channing Tatum’s Thank You from a Hometown Hero

As I previously posted, Channing Tatum and the cast and crew of ‘G.I. Joe: Rise of Cobra’ honored local service men and women with an early Hometown Hero Screening in San Diego, California during their world-wide press tour before the film was officially released in theaters.

At the event, Senior Community Representative Bill Cegelka presented local Hometown Hero Jose Velazquez and his son, Justin with a personal letter honoring Jose’s service in the US Navy.

In today's Fab Fan Encounter, Jose and his family have sent photos and a thank you letter to Chan and all of the supporters at the event and have given me permission to share...

"A 'G.I. Joe The Rise of Cobra' premier was held in San Diego on August 5th. My family and I want to take this moment to thank everyone for supporting the military and us. My family and I had a great opportunity to meet with Channing Tatum, Marlon Wayans, Stephen Sommers, Community Representative Bill Cegelka, Lori Saldana State Assemblywoman, Neil Hoffman and so many others that made it such a great time for us and all because of my son Justin's letter was picked thank you.

We did have sometime to talk with Channing and he was very happy to be there with us and honoring the men and women in uniform. He is so modest and I thank him for that telling me and my family that this event was for us was a great honor. Jenna Dewan just left for Budapest, Hungary to visit Channing Tatum while he films his newest movie, 'The Eagle of the Ninth'. The happy newlywed that I'm sure was missing her husband something fierce (and vice versa) tweeted that she's...

"In Budapest, having an amazing time, soaking up the love:) Should've brought my rainboots though! About to go for a bike ride around the city."

Before she left for Hungary, Jen also recently tweeted that she was interviewed by People Magazine about the cute over-the-knee boots she wore to an event late last month.

In case you missed it, People.com just posted a photo special with their Summer 2009 favs, and (not surprisingly) Channing Tatum and Jenna Dewan's July 11th wedding made the cut. In the article, we get a wider picture of the official photo Chan and Jenna released for the wedding.

Here's what People Magazine had to say about what they have dubbed the "BIGGEST FANTASY WEDDING"of the summer...

"You may kiss the princess bride! Channing Tatum and Jenna Dewan said their "I dos" on July 11 at an oceanside estate in front of 220 friends and family members. Today's Fab Fan Encounter comes to us via IMDB user and Fabulous Channing Tatum Fan Juliaaa who ran into Chan outside the Gramercy Hotel in New York City during the recent 'G.I. Joe: Rise of Cobra' press tour.

Here's what Juliaaa had to say about her lucky fan encounter...

"I met Channing on August 5 in New York City, in front of the Gramercy Park Hotel, which lies next to the Gramercy Park and two steps from Park Avenue, for whomever is familiar with the area. He was on his tour to NYC to promote "G.I Joe:Rise Of Cobra". It was almost noon. He came out of the hotel and was signing autographs and taking pictures with the fans for about 20 minutes, then headed to his car to get to some event, as far as I could understand. He was looking cute and confident and seemed to enjoy talking and taking pictures with everybody there." - Juliaaa

NEWS FLASH: Channing Tatum’s ‘Fighting’ Knocks Out the Competition on DVD & Blu-ray

Channing Tatum's 2009 action movie 'Fighting' was released on DVD and Blu-ray in the US and Canada last month. According to Rentrak (a company that provides sales data to the entertainment and media industries), the movie debuted at No. 1 in Blu-ray Disc sales, No. 2 in DVD sales, and is also currently the No. 2 DVD rental.

Writer and director Dito Montiel brings the action in 'Fighting', a gritty story of a small town boy who becomes a street fighting star in New York City's underground circuit.

'Fighting' stars Channing Tatum, Academy Award nominee Terrence Howard ('Iron Man', 'Crash', 'Hustle & Flow'), Zulay Henao ('S. Darko') and Luis Guzman ('War'), and is about Small-town boy Shawn MacArthur (Channing Tatum) knows firsthand that every day in New York City is a struggle to survive.

When scam artist Harvey Boarden (Terrence Howard) gives him a chance to be something more in the brutal underground world of bare-knuckle street-fighting, Shawn decides that he has something worth fighting for and puts everything on the line to win. Every knockout brings him closer to the life he's always wanted, but also traps him in a dangerous web he can't escape.

The film that Pete Hammond of Hollywood.com calls "a total knockout" has two versions on one disc; the theatrical version plus the unrated cut with even more ferocious fighting!

ON LOCATION: New Scottish Filming Location for Channing Tatum's 'Eagle of the Ninth'

Channing Tatum continues to film his Kevin MacDonald directed Roman epic 'The Eagle of the Ninth' on the outskirts of Budapest, Hungary, and I found some news on one of the upcoming Scottish locations via the Sweet On Sigma Films blog.

Local sources are saying that the movie will be filming in Scotland the first two weeks of October. The production will be based out of Film City Glasgow once they move from Hungary to Scotland (as I previously posted), and they will reportedly be filming at Fox Point near Dornie and Achnahaird Beach in the far northwest area of Scotland, which you can see in the beautiful photos above.

UPDATE (9.5.2009): Thanks to Jamie Bell fan site All Things Foe I just learned that the production has been or will soon be filming in the Hungarian town of Szentendre, a small art village on the Danube, at Ulcisia Castra. A newspaper also mentioned that local Hungarian actors are also being used for some of the minor roles.
