NEWS FLASH: Channing Tatum Chosen for Dito Montiel's 'The Brotherhood of the Rose'
One of Channing's favorite directors to work with is Dito Montiel. Dito directed Channing in 2006's 'A Guide to Recognizing Your Saints' and his upcoming action film 'Fighting' that will be released in theaters on April 24, 2009 and some may even say Chan's somewhat of a muse to the talented director.
At this point, Chan and Dito almost have a sort of shorthand when they communicate on set, and the two work together extremely well. That's why I was happy to read on Variety.com that Channing Tatum has been chosen to star in a new movie called 'The Brotherhood of the Rose', an adaptation of the David Morrell novel for Warner Brothers.
Montiel is re-writing an earlier draft of the script from Adam Cozad and will also direct the film. Basil Iwanyk ('Clash of the Titans') is producing the movie through his Thunder Road banner.
The story is a cat-and-mouse espionage tale about two orphans raised by a top CIA agent to become assassins. When their operations go awry, they find themselves on the run, caught in a conspiracy and hunted by the most dangerous spies in the world. The book was previously adapted as a two-part NBC miniseries in 1989 that starred David Morse, Peter Strauss, Connie Sellecca, and Robert Mitchum.
Industry folk are saying the project signifies the fact that Warner Brothers is trying to start their own Bourne-style spy thriller franchise, so I feel this new role definitely moves Channing up yet another notch on the action hero meter.
'The Brotherhood of the Rose' is currently set to hit theaters some time in 2010.
Congrats to Chan for landing yet another great role!!! He has so many movies in the works that it can be hard to keep track. Fans can CLICK HERE to get a complete list of his past, current, and future projects.

Check Out New Promotional Photos from Channing Tatum's 'Public Enemies'
Set during the Depression-era’s great crime wave, 'Public Enemies is the story of the government’s attempt to stop legendary criminals John Dillinger, Baby Face Nelson and Pretty Boy Floyd. This operation transformed the FBI into the first federal police force from the powerless agency it once was. In addition to Channing Tatum, the star-studded cast includes Johnny Depp, Christian Bale, Billy Crudup, Leelee Sobieski, Giovanni Ribisi, David Wenham, Stephen Graham, Emilie de Ravin, Marion Cotillard, and Stephen Dorff.
You can click on the images below to view and download the high quality promotional stills:
Here's Universal's plot outline for 'Public Enemies' where Channing Tatum plays hardcore criminal Pretty Boy Floyd who is hunted down by Christian Bale's character Melvin Purvis...
"In the action-thriller 'Public Enemies', acclaimed filmmaker Michael Mann directs Johnny Depp, Christian Bale, Channing Tatum, and Academy Award® winner Marion Cotillard in the incredible and true story of legendary Depression-era bank robber John Dillinger (Depp), the charismatic bank robber whose lightning raids made him the number one target of J. Edgar Hoovers fledgling FBI and its top agent, Melvin Purvis (Bale), and a folk hero to much of the downtrodden public.
No one could stop Dillinger. No jail could hold him. His charm and audacious jailbreaks endeared him to almost everyone, from his girlfriend Billie Frechette (Cotillard) to an American public who had no sympathy for the banks that had plunged the country into the Depression. But while the adventures of Dillinger's gang, later including the sociopathic Baby Face Nelson (Stephen Graham), thrilled many, Hoover (Billy Crudup) hit on the idea of exploiting the outlaw's capture as a way to elevate his Bureau of Investigation into the national police force that became the FBI. He made Dillinger America's first Public Enemy Number One.
Hoover sent in Purvis, the dashing "Clark Gable of the FBI". However, Dillinger and his gang outwitted and outgunned Purvis' men in wild chases and shootouts. Only after importing a crew of Western ex-lawmen (newly baptized as agents) who were real gunfighters and orchestrating epic betrayals from the infamous "Lady in Red" to the Chicago crime boss Frank Nittiwere Purvis and the FBI able to close in on Dillinger."

Lucky Fan Attends a Private Screening for Channing Tatum's 'Fighting'
Above you see a behind-the-scenes photo of actors Flaco Navaja, Peter Anthony Tambakis, Terrence Howard, and Channing Tatum during one of their many night shoots on the New York City set of their upcoming action film 'Fighting'.
Channing Tatum fan Stephanie R. got the opportunity to attend a special, private screening of the movie at a theater in Hollywood, California last Wednesday night. Stephanie was lucky enough to be in the right place at the right time and was able to attend the private screening thanks to a company called Moviescreening.com.
How does that happen you may ask?
She explained that she was leaving the Amoeba Music Store in Hollywood, and there was a Moviescreening.com rep outside of the store who asked her if she wanted free tickets to watch a private screening of Channing Tatum's new movie 'Fighting'. After using the information he provided to reserve her tickets online and showing up early to the first-come-first serve screening, Stephanie was able to see the film way before the rest of us.
She loved the movie and had this to say about the special screening:
"I thought Channing Tatum's new movie, "Fighting" was a pretty great movie. He played his role absolutely amazing, plus he looked stunning on every scene. The fighting scenes would give me shivers because the hits seemed so real. I really felt that Channing was getting really hurt. Good thing its just acting :] I loved how he treated Zulay in the movie, he was really interested in her and he tried to bump into her frequently...I think Channing Tatum's overall performance is absolutely great! He is such a magnificent actor. All his acting roles he performs them to the fullest. He's my all time favorite actor ever."
The moral of this story is...hang out at music stores in Hollywood and you too may be able to see Chan's movies early and for FREE no less! Big thanks to Stephanie for sharing!!!
The rest of us non-Hollywood types may sadly have to wait until April 24th to see 'Fighting' when it hits US theaters. Fans can also CLICK HERE to see when the movie will be released in other countries around the world. If I hear about any other early screenings beforehand, I'll definitely let you all know.
And in case you haven't seen it, make sure to watch the new trailer for Channing Tatum's 'Fighting', and you can check out tons of promotional and behind-the-scenes photos in the Channing Tatum Unwrapped photo gallery. IN THE PRESS: Channing Tatum Chosen as Breakout Star of 2009
The Daily Beast predicts this promising crop of young actors will hit the big time this year. From Lenny Kravitz’ daughter to Michael Cera’s girlfriend, meet the class of 2009.
Channing Tatum
Yes, you’ve seen Channing before. He was in the teen dance-off Step Up, the Queens indie A Guide to Recognizing Your Saints, and the Iraq soldier drama Stop-Loss. But 2009 is going to be the Year of Tatum. (You heard it here first.) He will star opposite Big Love’s Amanda Seyfried in Dear John, the latest adaptation of a Nicholas Sparks novel to transition to the big screen—basically, this year’s The Notebook. Then he appears in Michael Mann’s 1930s gangster noir, Public Enemies, with Johnny Depp, Christian Bale, and Billy Crudup. He will play an action figure in the fall’s big G.I. Joe film, and will star in Fighting, another indie about a New York scam artist who enters the world of underground street brawls. There will be a lot of Tatum without a shirt on in 2009. Happy New Year.
The Daily Beast also chose the following TV and FIlm actors for their list of Breakout Stars:
- Carey Mulligan ('Brothers', 'Public Enemies'),
- Chris Pine ('Star Trek'),
- Charlyne Yi ('Knocked Up, 'Paper Heart'),
- Zoe Kravitz ('No Reservations', 'The Greatest'),
- Olivia Wilde ("House", 'The Year One', 'TRON 2.0'),

NEWS FLASH: New Comic Book and Interview for Channing Tatum's 'G.I. Joe: Rise of Cobra'
In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, Stephen Sommers, the director of Channing Tatum's big budget film 'G.I. Joe: Rise of Cobra', gives us some incite on what inspired the film. Here's a snippet from the EW article...
Sommers adds that G.I. Joe, which also stars Dennis Quaid and features a cameo from his Mummy star Brendan Fraser, was partly inspired by the Sean Connery-era James Bond movies. "I always loved the old Bonds," he says. "It's funny now how Bond wants to be Bourne. I loved Quantum of Solace, but it was like, man, this is a completely different movie to the Bonds I grew up with.
In a very contemporary way, G.I. Joe is inspired by the memory of the kind of movies I saw when I was younger. I remember being in the theater for Thunderball and the big underwater battle at the end of that movie just blew my socks off. In G.I. Joe, there's an underwater battle under the polar icecap that's Thunderball times 10!"
Before 'G.I. Joe: Rise of Cobra' hits US theaters on August 7, 2009, IDW comics will be releasing 4 prequel comic books that are associated with the film. The first comic will be available at your local comic book store in March and features Channing and his character Duke.In today's post, fans can see the cover of the second comic book in the series that features Christopher Eccleston's character Destro. Toy News International just posted the new graphic for the G.I. Joe Movie Prequel #2 comic book that was written by Chuck Dixon. It will be released by IDW Publishing this coming April.
Here's a description for the comic book...
The summer's big blockbuster is not the beginning! Learn the legacy of Clan Destro in a bloody history lesson you'll never forget. Then follow the latest heir to the Destro manor as he travels to Paris for an illegal arms deal with some bad guys who think they can re-negotiate terms—with bullets! They have no idea who they're haggling with.

FAN ENCOUNTER: Channing Tatum and Extra Chris Head on the Set of 'Dear John'
Today's awesome Fab Fan Encounter was submitted by fan Chris Head, an extra in Channing Tatum's highly-anticipated romantic drama 'Dear John'. Chris' story reminds us how exciting, rewarding, and tough the life of a film extra (and principle actor) can be.
As I previously posted, the movie filmed in Harleyville and at the Citadel in South Carolina the week of December 15th 2008. Here's what Chris (who you see with Chan in the first photo below) had to say about his eventful days on the Harleyville and Citadel sets of 'Dear John'...
Tuesday was shooting in Harleyville. It was an Afghan village scene. It was definitely something else. Smoke and debris filled the air. The rubbish and broken concrete made it look like a complete disaster area. Camels, livestock, goats, etc. also roamed the area. I dressed the part of an Afghan local, and drove a car that followed behind the US Army Hummers. Just when the 12hr day wrapped, and I figured this was it, I was asked if I could come back for the rest of the week to play an Afghan rebel. Mind you this is a 3hr drive for me everyday.
This time it was portraying, I believe, Saudi Arabia. Excellent job doing so I might add. The scenery was unreal. You would never in a million years guess this was in Harleyville, SC. I met Channing for the first time, and got to talk with him for a few minutes. He was a SUPER NICE guy! I even had my picture taken with him!
They were preparing him for the next scene when they brought him back to the room I was in. I was actually by myself too. It was just me, Channing, and the assistant director. I listened to him sing out loud to himself as they pulled the bandages off his back. One swift pull on the bandage and you could hear the tape literally rip off his back! The look on Channing face was priceless!
They did an EXCELLENT job at doing so because many of the people walking out had the same look on there face as I did! This was the last day for me. It was 9pm on Tuesday night, and the movie was coming to an end. Tomorrow was the last day for filming, and no background was needed...Overall, it was great. Definitely a LOT of work, and it was very exhausting. I met great people, ate AWESOME food, and had the experience of a lifetime. :)"
'Dear John' tells the story of John (Channing Tatum), a young soldier home on leave and Savannah Curtis (Amanda Seyfried), the idealistic college student he meets during her spring vacation. The movie wrapped filming in the Charleston, South Carolina area last month and will be released in theaters this fall or in the Spring of 2010. Fans can CLICK HERE to get even more news and photos from the various 'Dear John' filming locations.
Big thanks to Chris for sending in the great photos and his story! If you happen to run into Chan or Jenna, send your photos and fan encounter stories to fanencounters@channingtatumunwrapped.com. I will post them on the blog to share with envious fans all around the globe! ;-)
